Everything still feels authentic and untouched, not commercialized.

On the way back, we stopped at Nam Luc waterfall, a majestic cascade hidden in the forest. With a height of over 140 meters and three different levels, its beauty, both poetic and powerful, blends perfectly with the surrounding greenery. 2. Day 3-4: Interesting cultural experiences in Dien Bien

This was one of our favorite places, and spending a full day there to discover their way of life and interact directly with the locals made us feel truly alive. The village is surrounded by nature, located along the peaceful Nam Rom river, with traditional stilt houses standing close to each other.

We explored the village by bicycle, learning about their homes and daily life, which revolves around agriculture and traditional crafts such as embroidery and weaving. What impressed us the most was being able to join the locals in preparing and cooking traditional Northwest dishes. All the ingredients, from meat, fish, to vegetables, are locally sourced and prepared following traditional Thai methods.

In the evening, we not only enjoyed these delicious dishes but also drank their traditional homemade alcohol, joined a campfire, listened to folk songs, and watched bamboo dances. The atmosphere was warm, lively, and deeply connecting. Despite the language barrier, nothing stopped us from sharing laughter, music, and dance. On the last day, we spent time visiting key landmarks such as the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum, A1 Hill, and the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument, all of which played an important role in Vietnam’s resistance against French colonialism. The dry conditions also make it easier to explore and enjoy outdoor activities. In addition, bring warm clothes and good walking shoes, as the mountainous terrain can be challenging. I strongly recommend hiring a private car with a driver for safety, as the winding mountain roads are not easy to navigate.

You should also carry cash, as some places, especially local markets, small restaurants, and ethnic villages, do not accept card payments. Finally, even if you do not stay overnight, try to visit at least one ethnic village. Their unique culture and warm hospitality will leave a lasting impression.
