II. Story of King Duc Duc

King Dục Đức, born Nguyễn Phúc Ưng Ái on February 23, 1852, was a brief but significant figure in the Nguyễn Dynasty of Vietnam. He was the adopted son of Emperor Tự Đức and the grandson of Emperor Thiệu Trị. Ascending the throne on July 20, 1883, after Tự Đức's death, Dục Đức's reign was tragically short, lasting only three days. His brief rule was marred by political intrigue and power struggles within the royal court.
Emperor Tự Đức, on his deathbed, appointed Dục Đức as his successor, but this decision was met with opposition from powerful court mandarins. They accused Dục Đức of lacking the proper conduct expected of an emperor, alleging he disrespected the late emperor's will. As a result, he was swiftly deposed and imprisoned by regents Tôn Thất Thuyết and Nguyễn Văn Tường. Dục Đức was subsequently sentenced to death by starvation and died on October 6, 1883, at the age of 31.
Though his reign was brief and largely overlooked in official histories, King Dục Đức's tragic story reflects the turbulent politics of Vietnam's last imperial dynasty, highlighting the instability and internal strife that plagued the Nguyễn court in its final years.

III. History of Duc Duc Tomb

Three kings, Duc Duc (1883), Hiep Hoa (1883), and Kien Phuc (1883–1884), succeeded Emperor Tu Duc (1847–1883) to the throne of the Nguyen Dynasty. Months—known historically as "Four Periods Three Kingdoms"—then passed on to four additional monarchs in quick succession: Duy Tan (1907 - 1916), Thanh Thai (1889 - 1907), Ham Nghi (1884 - 1885), and Dong Khanh (1885 - 1889).
Nguyen Phuc Ung Ai, better known as Emperor Duc Duc, was born in 1852. Two years later, he became Duc Duc Duong in the royal city after being adopted by Emperor Tu Duc. He was renamed Ung Chan at the age of 17. The 32-year-old eldest son succeeded his father, King Tu Duc, in the kingdom. However, in just three days—on July 23, 1883, he was removed from office and imprisoned in the Institute of Medicine. He finally starved at the Thua Thien jail on June 10, 1883, after going seven days without food or drink. He left behind eight wives, eleven sons, and eight daughters.
Temporarily buried tomb close to Tuong Quang pagoda on Phuoc Qua islet. A few days later, his wife, Mrs. Tu Minh, was granted permission by the court to visit the tomb and hold a burial at Tuong Quang Temple. Nguyen Phuc Buu Lan, the son of Emperor Duc Duc, assumed the title of Thanh Thai upon his coronation in 1889. Soon after taking the throne, Thanh Thai erected An Lang, the mausoleum fit for a legitimate king. The 200-meter-distance Tuong Quang pagoda is the site of worship. Tan Mieu temple, which was renamed Cung Ton Mieu in 1897, was constructed by the Imperial Court of Thanh Thai in Thuan Cat Ward, close to the Imperial Citadel, as a place of worship for the Duc Duc King in 1891. The mother of King Thanh Thai, Mrs Tu Minh Hoang Thai Hau, earned enough money in 1892 to cast a Buddha statue and enlarge the rising house of Tuong Quang Pagoda. The pagoda was given a diaphragm and renamed Kim Quang pagoda by the Thanh Thai king in the next year. "Sac Tu Kim Quang Tu" is five words.
The monarch permitted to construct of Long An palace close to Emperor Duc Duc's grave in July of the eleventh year of Thanh Thai so that the emperor might honour his father. To accommodate the seven wives of King Duc Duc, several subordinate homes, including Ta, Huu muong, and Ta Huu, were constructed on this site to oversee the devotion. After Mrs. Tu Minh passed away in 1906, the court redesigned Emperor Duc Duc's tomb area, creating a double tomb area, and erected her tomb next to his in the "burial" and "virtuous" styles.
A memorial ceremony for the monarch was held at Long An Palace in late 1945, shortly after Duy Tan passed away in an aeroplane crash in Africa. The king was worshipped here. After King Thanh Thai passed away in 1954, his remains were interred at the Long An temple and now lie in the An Lang region. The remains of King Duy Tan were interred close to the Thanh Thai tomb in 1987. Three wives of Thanh Thai kings are buried close to the two sides of the tombs of Thanh Thai and Duy Tan. Additionally, in 1994, King Duy Tan's wife, Mrs. Mai Thi Vang, whose body passed away in 1980, was interred close to his grave. Nowadays, Duc Duc Tomb is the best site to see in Hue.

IV. Highlights of Duc Duc Tomb

The 56,144-square-meter Duc Duc Tomb is comprised of over 20 major and small architectural structures. It is separated into two sections: the tombs and the temple, which are situated over 50 meters apart. The two architectural sections are integrated into enclosures. Using a modest hill, commonly referred to as Phuoc Qua, as a front screen, the mausoleum faces northwest. View the horizontal flow in front of you as a "Minh Đường," or place of vitality, and use the peak Tam Thai in the background as a "Hậu Chẩm," or a firm foundation. Once more, a lengthy vein is required; this vein is often a river, long lake, or pond, and the dragon vein needs to be constantly open to maintain prosperity.
Proceed to the tomb area, which occupies 3,445 square meters and is accessed through a sizable brick three-door gate with a false top. Bai Dinh is behind the door; unlike other graves, it has no stone statues—just a decorative handrail constructed of lime bricks. With Huynh Oc house constructed on square bases measuring eight meters apiece, the tomb's centre is directly behind the second gate of the second gate. With its old form and Hoang Luu Ly roof tiles, the home is constructed as a shared dwelling. The inside is simply adorned, while the ridge's edge is formed like a dragon and another dragon. The two symmetrically positioned tombs of King Duc Duc and Queen Tu Minh are located on either side of this house. The total height of the tombs, which are constructed of Thanh stone and resemble five overlapping rectangular blocks, is 0.85 meters. The words Tho and Song Hy are written on a screen in front of the two graves. There are two brick construction pillars outside the burial region on either side of the lotus-shaped cover. Further out, there are prohibited pillars that demarcate the tomb area.
The screen and the Bat Trang tiled courtyard are located behind the main gate. Long An Palace, a double structure with a scallop snail positioned on a 24.2 x 22.2 meter floor, is the focal point of the worship space. The temple has two wings and five compartments with a single roof made of yellow enamelled tiles, while the main hall has two dual wings and three compartments.
The left-right Ta-Huu buildings are located in front of Long An Palace, while the rear Ta-Huu buildings link to the bridge through the main temple. The military guard's quarters, watchmen, and duty watchhouse were all located outside the city walls. Duc Duc Tomb is the best site to see in Hue.

Duc Duc Tomb is so beautiful. Because the shrine is closed, you can't go from there to the tomb. You have to go around and find a path through the wild grass to get in. You can still go in. The door is unlocked because sometimes people come in to clean and burn incense.
