1. Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Cai Be - Mekong Lodge

On the first day of the 3-day Saigon Phnom Penh tour, my adventure began in the morning in Ho Chi Minh City, heading toward Cai Be, a wonderful region of the Mekong Delta that I was eager to explore. Upon arrival, the atmosphere immediately captivated me: a rare tranquility, endless tropical orchards, and charming century-old houses. We boarded a sampan, a typical small boat, to navigate the Mekong’s canals. It felt like a total immersion into another world, far away from the hustle and bustle of the cities

Travel Saigon Phnom Penh 3 days, in the afternoon, I was fortunate enough to take a bike ride through the peaceful village lanes, lined with lush plants. I also tasted fresh seasonal fruits in a local orchard, an unforgettable culinary experience. In the evening, I participated in a cooking workshop where I prepared traditional Vietnamese dishes myself, then had the pleasure of savoring what I had cooked. The Mekong Lodge, where we stayed, was the perfect place to relax after such a day full of discoveries, with its beautiful pool, lush garden, and calm, soothing atmosphere

Warmly welcome from Mekong Lodge

2. Day 2: Mekong Lodge - Cai Be Market - Sa Dec - Chau Doc

On the second day of the 3-day Saigon Phnom Penh tour, after a delicious breakfast, we continued exploring Cai Be. We visited the floating market, an impressive sight where boats were full of fruits, vegetables, and local products. During this 3-day Saigon Phnom Penh itinerary, I was fascinated by the sight of these colorful boats and the lively atmosphere surrounding them. We also met artisans working with coconuts to make candies and rice cakes, a local craft that I found very interesting. I also tasted coconut candies and caramel puffed cakes, paired with honey tea, which perfectly complemented these sweet treats.

In the afternoon, our journey took us to Sa Dec, a town made famous by the novel The Lover by Marguerite Duras. I visited Huynh Thuy Le ancient house, the lover in the novel, a place full of history. After a captivating visit, we enjoyed a traditional lunch in a local home. The day continued with a visit to Kien An Cung pagoda, an impressive historical and spiritual site, a true cultural treasure. The day ended with our arrival in Chau Doc, a peaceful town where we spent the night.

3. Day 3: Chau Doc - Phnom Penh / By Express Boat

On the final day of the 3-day Saigon Phnom Penh itinerary, after an early breakfast, we took a boat to cross the Cambodian border. The journey along the Mekong River to Phnom Penh was magical. The landscape of the river and the small villages along the shores was breathtaking. Upon arriving in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the city, located at the confluence of four rivers. Phnom Penh is a true blend of history and modernity, with colonial buildings and Buddhist temples standing side by side with more modern constructions. Formerly the capital of the Kingdom under French colonization, the city still carries its nickname, the "Pearl of Asia," and it’s easy to see why. Its unique charm, vibrant atmosphere, and fascinating history deeply impressed me.

The boat ride on the Cai Son River, through the village of Nhon Thanh with its handmade mat production, left me in awe. The fragrance of fruits in the coconut fields and the traditional lunch brought a sense of calm and well-being. The boat trip added a magical touch to this already rich experience.

2. Day 2: Can Tho - Cai Rang Floating Market - Chau Doc

We continued our 3-day Saigon-Phnom Penh itinerary with a stop in Can Tho, a centuries-old town in the Mekong Delta, a true economic and cultural center for over 200 years. Surrounded by peaceful villages and coconut trees, it is home to the Cai Rang Floating Market, one of the largest in the Delta and a must-see stop.

After an early breakfast, we explored the Cai Rang floating market, bustling with boats laden with fruits and vegetables. We then visited the Ba Hien orchard and a traditional noodle factory before heading to Chau Doc, a border town with rich Khmer, Chinese, and Cham communities.

Experience in Cai Rang floating market

Along the way, we made a brief stop at a crocodile farm, followed by lunch. In Chau Doc, after settling in at our hotel, we embarked on a cruise to discover the floating fish farms. A visit to a Cham village allowed us to explore a mosque funded by Malaysia. The day ended with a visit to the Nui Sam pilgrimage site, where Chinese, Cham, and Khmer temples stand side by side. Dinner was free, and we spent the night in Chau Doc.

3. Day 3: Chau Doc - Phnom Penh / By Express Boat

After an early breakfast, excitement was in the air as we left our hotel at 7:30 am to head to the pier. The sound of the engines, the fresh morning air, and the bustling docks already gave us a taste of the adventure that awaited. On board a Xe Loi, we cruised through lively streets, feeling the vibrant energy of this border region.

Arriving at the border was a key moment in the trip. Crossing by Mekong cruise, watching the customs officers, and waiting for our entry visa added a touch of excitement and anticipation. Once the formalities were completed, we continued our journey, peacefully sailing on the majestic river.

This tour ends in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

As we neared Phnom Penh, a sense of awe took over us. The capital of Cambodia, located at the confluence of four rivers, slowly revealed itself, bathed in the golden light of the sun. Once known as the "Pearl of Asia" during French Indochina, it still seemed to carry traces of a glorious past, mixed with the vibrant energy of the present.
