Hello, I’ve just returned from a long trip to Vietnam and am excited to share my 5-day experience in Ha Giang. Thank Autour Asia for designing such a suitable and exciting itinerary. Our group, always in search of authentic activities, was eagerly anticipating this 5-day stay in Ha Giang, a region that offers breathtaking landscapes and unique cultural richness thanks to the diversity of the local ethnic groups.

From the vast Hoang Su Phi rice terraces to hiking in the peaceful village of Nam Khoa, and conquering the winding roads of Dong Van and Meo Vac, every moment of these 5 days in Ha Giang was unforgettable.

1. Day 1: Hanoi - Ha Giang - Hoang Su Phi Rice Terraces

Our Ha Giang 5-day itinerary mainly focused on exploring the Hoang Su Phi rice terraces, where we had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in breathtaking landscapes and experience the daily life of the ethnic minorities living in the region. The journey from our hotel to Hoang Su Phi, in Ha Giang Province, took several hours, and we arrived around 4 PM.

My first impression of the Hoang Su Phi rice terraces in Ha Giang was truly enchanting. These vast expanses of rice fields, carefully arranged in steps along the mountain slopes, gleamed with a golden hue, thanks to the ripe rice ears, bathing the landscape in a unique golden light characteristic of this region. Walking through these immense rice terraces was a memorable experience, enhanced by the subtle aroma of ripened rice, adding a sensory dimension to the enchanting scenery.

In the evening, we stayed in a homestay with an unbeatable view of the Hoang Su Phi rice terraces. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, offering everything needed for a well-deserved rest. This is how the first day ended, filled with discoveries and awe during my 5 days in Ha Giang.

2. Day 2: Hoang Su Phi - Trekking to Nam Khoa Village - Yao Village

This day was one of the highlights of our 5-day trip to Ha Giang. The trek to Nam Khoa Village was a true adventure, where we crossed paths lined with greenery and stunning panoramic views.

Upon arrival, the warmth of the locals, their simplicity, and their authentic way of life deeply touched me. The village is also surrounded by magnificent rice terraces that gracefully snake along the mountain slopes, offering a fascinating visual spectacle.

Meeting the Red Dao during the Ha Giang 5-day itinerary

As we explored Nam Khoa further, we had the opportunity to discover the daily life and traditions of the Red Dao ethnic group. Their traditional red clothing, adorned with captivating patterns, immediately catches the eye and reflects their rich cultural heritage.

Afterward, we continued our trek to the Yao village, where we admired lush tea plantations before returning to Hoang Su Phi. It was an unforgettable day of our Ha Giang 5-day itinerary, filled with discoveries and exceptional landscapes.

3. Day 3: Hoang Su Phi - Dong Van - Yen Minh

On day 3 of our Ha Giang 5-day itinerary, in the morning, we left Hoang Su Phi to head to Dong Van. Our first stop was at the Sky Gate, a spot offering a breathtaking panoramic view of Ha Giang's picturesque landscapes. One site that particularly impressed me was the Twin Mountains, with its two perfectly round twin hills, forming a unique natural tableau.

Next, our driver took us along the Mien River, following winding roads bordered by stunning vistas, all the way to Yen Minh. There, we made a stop at the village of Sung La, where we met members of the Lo Lo and Hmong ethnic groups, dressed in beautiful, richly embroidered traditional costumes. We also visited the Hmong King's palace, a historical building that revealed the ancient architecture and way of life in Ha Giang.

4. Day 4: Dong Van - Meo Vac - Ha Giang

This day of our 5-day trip in Ha Giang was dominated by the exploration of the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass. The views from this passage were simply spectacular: steep mountains, deep gorges, and rivers winding through the valleys.

In the morning, we visited the Dong Van market, which is only held once a week. Fortunately, our schedule allowed us to be there on its opening day. This lively market attracts a wide variety of ethnic groups from the surrounding villages. Each group stands out by its traditional clothing, creating a colorful atmosphere and a fascinating cultural display.

In the afternoon, we headed towards Meo Vac, crossing the famous Ma Pi Leng Pass. This journey offered us breathtaking views of the surrounding nature, particularly the Nho Que River, with its emerald-blue waters gracefully winding through the steep gorges of the Tu San Canyon in Ha Giang.

5. Day 5: Ha Giang – Hanoi by bus

On the last day, we took some time in the morning to cycle around the villages and admire Ha Giang’s stunning nature. Then, we checked out of our room and took the bus back to Hanoi, marking the end of our Ha Giang itinerary 5 days.

III. Weather in Ha Giang 5 days - Forecast for a trip

In September, the weather in Ha Giang 5 days was mild and pleasant, perfect for our trip. We were fortunate to admire the rice terraces of Hoang Su Phi during the harvest season, offering a breathtakingly beautiful view. The blue sky, dotted with a few clouds, created a romantic atmosphere as we visited the ethnic villages in the region. This is why I highly recommend visiting Ha Giang during this time of year.
