I. Overview of the 3-day itinerary in Yen Bai

The Vietnam travel agency Autour Asia accompanied me on this trip to Vietnam. I am happy that the Yen Bai itinerary 3 days went smoothly and was memorable. A big thank you to Amelie for her professionalism, kindness, and attentiveness throughout the journey.

My 3-day itinerary in Yen Bai took place in June. It was a bit unfortunate that it wasn't rice harvesting season, but it was irrigation season, which made the natural landscapes very lush and green. The cool mountain air of the northern region and the warmth of the ethnic minorities in Yen Bai made my trip even more unforgettable.

II. Detailed Yen Bai itinerary 3 days

1. Day 1: Hanoi - Thanh Son - Tram Tau - Nghia Lo

In the morning, I left Hanoi for Nghia Lo, beginning my 3-day itinerary in Yen Bai. Along the way, we made a stop at the Thanh Son tea hill. The landscape was calm and peaceful, with rows of green tea stretching as far as the eye could see, far from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.

We then continued to the Son Thinh town, where we stopped for lunch, enjoying local dishes typical of northern Vietnam, such as grilled fish and dried beef.

After lunch, the bus took us to Nghia Lo. On the road, I had the chance to admire the vast Muong Lo valleys on both sides, a captivating sight with the vibrant greenery of the young rice shoots. Once we arrived at Nghia Lo, I checked into my hotel room and prepared for the next leg of the journey to Tram Tau.

The highlight of the afternoon was the Tram Tau hot spring. Taking a bath in these warm waters was one of the most relaxing experiences. I let myself be enveloped by the hot water, enjoying the tranquility of nature in Yen Bai and letting all the fatigue melt away.

In the evening, I returned to Nghia Lo for dinner at a local restaurant. The rest of the evening was spent with a peaceful walk around the town, appreciating its calm pace of life. This first day of my Yen Bai 3-day trip ended in satisfaction.

2. Day 2: Nghia Lo - Tu Le - Mu Cang Chai

The second day of my Yen Bai itinerary 3 days started early in the morning. After breakfast, I headed towards Mu Cang Chai, one of the most anticipated destinations of my trip.

Along the way, I stopped at the foot of the Khau Pha pass to take some souvenir photos with the symbol of the Mu Cang Chai district. This winding pass offered an adventurous experience that I shared with my driver.

Reaching the top of the pass, the view before me was truly spectacular. From there, I could admire the entire Khau Pha valley, with its ethnic villages hidden in the mist. It was my unforgettable experience in Yen Bai.

After arriving in Mu Cang Chai, I had lunch and checked into my hotel room to rest a bit before continuing my afternoon explorations. The first destination of the afternoon was the Cau Ba Nha rice terraces, famous for their shoe-shaped terraces. There, I hopped onto a motorbike driven by a local Hmong man. We navigated narrow, winding roads to reach the Mam Xoi rice terraces, Mu Cang Chai’s iconic symbol. The lush, layered rice terraces created a landscape that was both grand and poetic.

The rest of the day was free for further exploration. I decided to visit a Thai ethnic village, known for its unique water wheels, which used to bring water from the stream for irrigation. Mu Cang Chai captivated me not only with its majestic nature but also with the simplicity and warmth of its people, completing the last night of my Yen Bai 3-day stay.

3. Day 3: Mu Cang Chai - Tu Le - Nghia Lo - Hanoi

On the last day of the 3-day itinerary in Yen Bai, I woke up early to enjoy breakfast in Mu Cang Chai town. Then, I explored the town by moto-taxi, which was a truly unique and interesting experience.

The Mu Cang Chai market was my first stop, where I got to witness the vibrant local life and discover the unique handmade products from this mountainous region. I bought some handmade souvenirs to bring a piece of Yen Bai back home.

Next, I visited the horse-shaped rice terraces, one of the Mu Cang Chai’s highlights. The landscape was truly stunning, with the gentle curves of the rice fields forming a spectacular natural backdrop. Although time was limited, every moment spent there made me want to cherish it forever.

Then, I stopped at the Tu Le valley, a region famous for its soft and fragrant sticky rice. The locals, especially the gentle Thai girls, left a deep impression on me.

At noon, we enjoyed our last meal in Nghia Lo before heading back to Hanoi. The bus dropped me off at the Hanoi Opera House in the evening, marking the end of the Yen Bai itinerary 3 days.

III. Weather in Yen Bai 3 days - Forecast for a trip

June is the rainy season, which made the weather in Yen Bai over the 3 days unpredictable. Fortunately, throughout my stay in Yen Bai, I didn’t experience a single downpour. The guide told me that it had rained heavily the week before, which made me feel quite lucky to be traveling under favorable conditions. Although it didn’t rain, the sky was a bit overcast, and it was quite hot. On the other hand, the irrigation season enhanced the region’s beauty, with lush forests, trees, and vibrant rice terraces in Yen Bai.
