III. My 6 days itinerary in Yen Bai Sapa Phu Tho - Day by day
1. Day 1: Discovering Nghia Lo and the Thai villages
My 6 days in Yen Bai Sapa Phu Tho began after a night at a homestay in Nghia Lo. The day before, I had left Hanoi and, after a five-hour drive, I had arrived in Nghia Lo, in the heart of the Muong Lo Valley. As soon as I woke up, a local breakfast gave me the energy I needed to explore the region. I walked through the Muong Lo Valley, admiring the rice fields and the landscapes through the seasons before visiting a traditional stilt house. My conversations with the Thai people allowed me to better understand their way of life and their traditions. After a lunch featuring Muong Lo specialties, I continued discovering the villages by bicycle and on foot, an excellent way to observe local life at its own pace. I watched craftswomen making the famous Piêu scarves and talked with local people who were always welcoming. To end this wonderful day, I shared a traditional dinner before attending a Thai Xoe dance performance, which is inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. 3. Day 3: First discoveries of Sapa
This third day marked a wonderful transition to the unique atmosphere of Sapa. After leaving Mu Cang Chai early in the morning, I crossed the mountains of the Hoang Lien Son Range, where every kilometre revealed a new panorama. I particularly enjoyed Tram Ton Pass, the highest pass in Vietnam, whose viewpoints overlook the valleys. Further on, Silver Waterfall offered me a refreshing break in the heart of unspoiled nature. Honestly, I did not see the time pass because this road was so enjoyable. The landscapes are among the most beautiful of the Yen Bai Sapa Phu Tho 6-day trip.
I arrived in Sapa around lunchtime before setting off to explore on foot. I started by admiring Sapa Stone Church, then I walked around the central square and Sapa Market, where traditional costumes and colourful stalls created a lively atmosphere. As I wandered through the streets, I felt the charm of this mountain town, between its colonial heritage and ethnic cultures. However, I recommend that you do not plan any trekking on that day. This relaxing visit is one of the best things to do in Sapa to recover after the hours spent on the road before the hikes the following day.

4. Day 4: Exploring Sapa and the ethnic villages
After a transition day in Sapa, I devoted this fourth stage to exploring the Muong Hoa Valley, one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Yen Bai Sapa Phu Tho 6 days tour. After breakfast, I set off on a hike to Lao Chai Village, following trails lined with terraced rice fields and the Muong Hoa Stream. The further I walked, the more spectacular the panoramas became. I also visited a few H'Mong houses and discovered their craftsmanship in indigo dyeing and beeswax painting. If you enjoy nature and authentic encounters, this hike is, in my opinion, unmissable.
The walk then continued to Ta Van Village, where I discovered a peaceful setting and another side of the culture through the Giay community. After lunch at a local home overlooking the valley, I talked with local families, observed their way of life, their traditional houses and their handicrafts. These encounters, simple yet sincere, gave a human dimension to these 6 days in Yen Bai Sapa Phu Tho. In the late afternoon, I returned to Sapa to enjoy a relaxing evening. After this hike, a Red Dao herbal bath and a dinner featuring local specialties were, in my opinion, the best way to end the day.

5. Day 5: Phu Tho and the Long Coc tea hills
When I woke up on this fifth day, I travelled from Sapa to Phu Tho province by private car for a journey of around 3.5 to 4 hours. The misty mountain peaks gradually gave way to gentle green hills, making the journey particularly enjoyable. After lunch at a local restaurant, I continued the trip while admiring these changing landscapes. I appreciated this more peaceful transition after several days of hiking. If you choose this itinerary, you will see that the journey naturally prepares you for discovering the tea hills of Long Coc.
Arriving at the Long Coc tea hills, I immediately understood why they are considered among the most beautiful tea landscapes in Vietnam. As I walked among these perfectly rounded tea plantations, I enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere before talking with a few tea growers and tasting a local green tea with delicate aromas. The many viewpoints made me want to capture these landscapes. In the late afternoon, I headed to Viet Tri city centre and settled into my hotel, already looking back on my Yen Bai Sapa Phu Tho 6 days tour with a certain emotion.

6. Day 6: Visiting the Hung Kings Temple and returning to Hanoi

As I climbed the steps lined with century-old trees, I visited the Lower Temple, the Middle Temple, the Upper Temple, the Hung King Mausoleum and the Well Temple while listening to the guide's stories about the legends of Au Co and Lac Long Quan. This visit allowed me to better understand the cultural roots of Vietnam.
In the late afternoon, I headed back to Hanoi by private car. During the journey, I looked back on all the highlights of this Yen Bai Sapa Phu Tho 6 days tour, which will remain one of my most beautiful travel memories.
