Hello everyone. I'm David, and I've just returned from an enchanting
5-day itinerary in Ninh Binh, meticulously organized by AUTOUR ASIA, the
best travel agency in Hanoi. Each day unfolded with new wonders, blending natural beauty, exciting activities, and cultural experiences. Let me take you through my unforgettable journey to this picturesque corner of Vietnam.
Day 1: Bai Dinh Pagoda & Trang An Boat Tour
What to do in Ninh Binh in 5 days? Our journey began with a visit to
Bai Dinh Pagoda, the largest Buddhist temple complex in Vietnam. I was immediately struck by the grandeur of the towering bronze Buddha statues and the calm aura that enveloped the entire complex. Walking along the corridors lined with hundreds of meticulously crafted Arhat statues felt like a meditative retreat. As I reached the top of the pagoda, the panoramic view of Ninh Binh’s verdant landscapes took my breath away. The serenity and spiritual energy of this place made it an unforgettable start to the trip.
The afternoon was dedicated to the
Trang An Boat Tour, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that felt like stepping into a dream. Floating through May Cave and Dia Linh Cave was enchanting; the gentle sway of the boat and the tranquil sound of water amplified the magical ambiance. Passing by the Kong: Skull Island filming location was a delightful surprise, blending nature’s beauty with cinematic nostalgia. The peacefulness and cinematic charm of this boat tour left me in awe.
Day 2: Hoa Lu Ancient Capital & Tam Coc Boat Trip
On the second day of Ninh Binh 5-day itinerary, we delved into history at the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, the birthplace of Vietnam’s first monarchy. Exploring the ancient temples of King Dinh and King Le filled me with a profound appreciation for Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage. The intricately carved stonework and the peaceful surroundings transported me back to the country’s historical beginnings.
Later, the Tam Coc Boat Trip lived up to its reputation as "Ha Long Bay on land." As we drifted through Ca Cave and Hai Cave, surrounded by limestone cliffs and rice paddies, I felt completely immersed in the tranquil beauty of Ninh Binh’s countryside. Our guide shared fascinating stories about local farmers, adding a human touch to the picturesque scenery. The climb to
Bich Dong Pagoda was challenging but rewarded us with a stunning view that made every step worth it.
Day 3: Thung Nham Bird Park & Hoa Lu Ancient Town
Ninh Binh what to do in 5 days? The morning of the third day in
Ninh Binh 5-day itinerary began at
Thung Nham Bird Park, a serene sanctuary where I felt at one with nature. Watching flocks of birds gracefully take flight against a lush backdrop was mesmerizing. Kayaking in the park’s peaceful waterways offered a closer connection to its pristine beauty, and exploring But Cave added a hint of adventure to the day.
In the afternoon, I joined a cooking class, which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable activities of the trip. Learning to prepare traditional dishes like nem ran (fried spring rolls) and banh cuon (steamed rice rolls) was a delightful cultural immersion. Sharing the dishes I made with my group was both satisfying and fun.
Dinner in Hoa Lu Ancient Town was another highlight. The local goat meat specialties paired with crispy rice cakes were a treat for the palate. Later, a leisurely boat ride under the soft glow of lanterns added a touch of romance to the day, leaving me with a deep sense of contentment.
Day 4: Cuc Phuong National Park
This day was all about adventure and discovery at
Cuc Phuong National Park, Vietnam’s first national park. Hiking through the dense jungle, I marveled at the diversity of flora and fauna. Reaching the Cave of Prehistoric Man felt like uncovering a piece of ancient history, as our guide recounted stories of early human habitation in the area.
Visiting the Endangered Primate Rescue Center was an emotional experience. Seeing the dedication to rehabilitating and protecting endangered primates like the Delacour’s langur was inspiring. The evening nocturnal wildlife tour added an element of thrill to the day, as we spotted elusive creatures in their natural habitat. The blend of adventure and conservation made this day unforgettable.
Day 5: Van Long Wetland & Gia Hung Sheep Field
Our final day in
Ninh Binh 5-day itinerary began with a tranquil boat ride through the
Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve. The stillness of the water and the mirror-like reflections of the limestone formations created an ethereal scene. Spotting a family of rare Delacour’s langurs added a sense of wonder to the already magical setting.
At the Gia Hung Sheep Field, I was charmed by the idyllic scenery of grazing sheep set against a backdrop of rolling hills. Feeding and interacting with the sheep was a simple yet joyful experience, and it gave me time to reflect on the beauty of this journey.

The peaceful ambiance of Bai Dinh Pagoda, the enchanting charm of Trang An, the historical allure of Hoa Lu, the adventure of Cuc Phuong, and the pastoral serenity of Gia Hung Sheep Field created a well-rounded and deeply fulfilling experience.
