2. Day 2: Exploring Chiang Rai’s Culture and Nature: What to do in Chiang Rai
On the second day in 3 days in Chiang Rai, we started the day with a guided tour arranged by Autour Asia. The guide was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the region’s history and culture.
Wat Rong Khun (White Temple): We were captivated by the pure white beauty of this iconic temple. Every intricate detail conveyed a deep spiritual meaning, symbolizing rebirth and enlightenment.

In the morning, we headed to Chiang Saen, an ancient city by the Mekong River.

Golden Triangle: Standing at the meeting point of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar, we boarded a boat to admire the grandeur of the Mekong River and the breathtaking landscapes of three countries.

best time to visit Chiang Rai is between November and February, when the weather is cool and dry. The moderate temperatures make exploring the city and its surroundings especially enjoyable, while also coinciding with the local festival season. Our stay in
Chiang Rai in 3 days in December was perfect, with cool weather and temperatures around 20°C during the day. This made our visits to temples, markets, and tourist sites very comfortable and memorable. The ideal weather truly enhanced our experience.
2. Dress code for temples
When visiting temples, it is important to dress modestly and respectfully. This means covering your shoulders and knees. Light, comfortable clothing is suitable for the heat, but be sure to bring something to cover your arms and legs when entering sacred spaces.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking, as many attractions, like temples and markets, require a fair amount of walking. Sneakers or sandals with good support are an excellent choice.
Chiang Rai's Night Bazaar is a great place to buy unique souvenirs, local handicrafts, and street food. It’s open every evening, but if you’re looking for the best deals, try to visit early in the evening. Bargaining is common, so don’t hesitate to negotiate for a better price on items.
4. Respect local customs
Thai culture places great importance on politeness and respect. When interacting with locals, it's important to use the traditional Thai greeting, the Wai, by pressing your palms together and bowing your head slightly. It is also customary to remove your shoes before entering temples and some homes.
