Below, find the detailed review of the Ho Chi Minh City travel itinerary in 2 days, shared by Mr. Lambert!
After our northern Vietnam trip, my family and I took a night flight to Ho Chi Minh City. The 2-day itinerary in Ho Chi Minh City that we followed this time was also designed by Autour Asia, our Vietnam travel agency. Knowing Ho Chi Minh City's reputation as a bustling metropolis with towering buildings and historical monuments, I was very excited to discover this city in southern Vietnam.
Brief Ho Chi Minh City travel itinerary 2 days:
Day 1: A journey through time
Day 2: A spiritual journey and modern escape
In the morning, we ventured into the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, a fascinating dive into Vietnam's tumultuous history. Our whole family loved this destination. This part of our 2-day itinerary in Ho Chi Minh City was both fun and memorable. The tunnels, built with remarkable ingenuity underground as hideouts during the war, are a testament to the Vietnamese army's resourcefulness. We had the opportunity to explore them ourselves and experience half a day like real Vietnamese soldiers—a unique and enriching experience.
In the afternoon, the War Remnants Museum allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s complex past. This museum houses many historical documents that reflect both the hardships and the courage of the Vietnamese people in their struggle for independence. The museum also displays various combat planes used during the wars. Every step in this space revealed a different aspect of Vietnam’s heroic history. Inside, there is a small café offering delicious drinks, perfect for a break after the visit.
After more than an hour at the museum, we headed back to Ho Chi Minh City downtown, where European-style architecture dominates with its iconic buildings. Among them, the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon stands out, evoking a Western atmosphere in the heart of the city. Right next to it, we visited the Saigon Central Post Office, a striking yellow building inspired by French colonial architecture. Inside, a large portrait of President Ho Chi Minh immediately catches the eye. We took the opportunity to buy stamps and postcards, perfect as souvenirs.
To end the day, we visited the Ben Thanh Market, where we tasted local street food. The whole family particularly enjoyed the "com tam" with grilled pork chops and fish sauce, an absolute delight. After some shopping, we took a short stroll along Pham Ngu Lao Street, admiring the city illuminated by a thousand lights at night. End of Day 1 of the Ho Chi Minh City itinerary 2 days.
For the second day of our 2-day trip to Ho Chi Minh City, we started in Chinatown. We had a delicious breakfast featuring dim sum and fragrant steamed buns. This neighborhood is also home to beautiful ancient temples, but due to time constraints, we only admired them from the outside.
In the afternoon, we visited the Independence Palace, located in the downtown. Exploring the underground war rooms gave us a deeper understanding of Vietnam's fascinating history. After this visit, we enjoyed a coffee by the river, a much-needed moment of relaxation.
Next, we detoured the Saigon Opera House, an iconic building with elegant French architectural design. The entire structure and the surrounding street evoked a European atmosphere.
To conclude our 2-day stay in Ho Chi Minh City, we went up to Landmark 81, the tallest skyscraper in Vietnam. This spot offers a spectacular view of the sunset, bathing the city in a golden light.
Finally, we strolled along Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, illuminated by the lights of the modern city. Very lively on weekends, this street is perfect for an evening walk. We ended the day with dinner at a local restaurant before enjoying one last moment on this vibrant avenue. It was truly an unforgettable 2-day trip to Ho Chi Minh City!
During my 2-day itinerary in Ho Chi Minh City, organized in December, I was fortunate to fully enjoy the city thanks to perfect weather. The weather in Ho Chi Minh City for 2 days was ideal for sightseeing. Although it was slightly warm and sunny, the dry, rain-free weather made the visits particularly pleasant. With such favorable weather, my trip was smooth and filled with memorable moments. December is an ideal time to explore Ho Chi Minh City!
