Day 1: After our overnight flight to Ho Chi Minh City, we rested and prepared for our 10-day itinerary in Saigon, which included visiting the city’s iconic landmarks. In the morning, our driver and guide picked us up to start our journey by exploring Saigon’s major monuments. We visited the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office, followed by a stroll along the Nguyen Hue walking street.

In the afternoon, we explored the Independence Palace and the War Remnants Museum, these sites are deeply connected to Vietnam’s history, offering fascinating insights into the war period.

In the evening, we visited Ben Thanh Market and enjoyed local cuisine. My children especially loved the Vietnamese pancakes; my wife adored the spring rolls.

In the afternoon, we continued our exploration with visits to the Saigon Opera House and Nha Rong Wharf, 2 sites showcasing historically influenced architecture. Finally, we returned to the hotel to rest and prepare for our next adventure in the Mekong Delta. Thus ended 2 eventful days in the city as part of our Ho Chi Minh City itinerary 10 days.

Day 3 - 4: Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta

Day 3: We set out for Can Tho to explore the beauty of the Mekong Delta. The journey took around four hours, and we arrived at our destination by midday. We visited the My Khanh fruit orchard, where we enjoyed fresh fruits picked straight from the trees.

Next, we discovered the Binh Thuy Ancient House, home to numerous valuable antiques and rich in historical significance. We were captivated by its unique architecture, blending Eastern and Western influences. The day ended with a visit to the Ninh Kieu Night Market, where we tasted local specialties.

Day 4: We visited Con Son Island, a small islet with a tranquil rural atmosphere. Later, we explored the Cai Rang Floating Market, a highlight of our 10-day itinerary in Ho Chi Minh City. The market buzzed with boats of all sizes carrying various goods, creating a vibrant and dynamic scene.

My children and I had the opportunity to join a local workshop to make Vietnamese noodles. It was truly a memorable experience that concluded our 2 days in the Mekong Delta.

Day 5: Saigon - Chinatown

After our excursion to Can Tho, the itinerary for the 5th day of our 10 days in Ho Chi Minh City was quite relaxing. We strolled around Chinatown, visited a few local temples, and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. The buildings here also showcase typical Chinese architecture.

In the afternoon, we explored the Binh Tay Market and browsed through several handicraft stalls to buy souvenirs. After some downtime at the hotel, my family headed out again to the Nguyen Hue Walking Street. There, we dined at a restaurant serving delicious broken rice accompanied by a chè dessert. I find this dessert quite sweet but refreshing — perfect for cooling off in the city’s heat.

Day 6: Cu Chi Tunnels

On the 6th day of our 10-day Ho Chi Minh City itinerary, we visited the Cu Chi Tunnels to learn more about the history of the Vietnam War. There, we were guided through the tunnel network where Vietnamese guerrilla fighters lived and fought during the war. We even had the chance to experience crawling through the narrow and challenging passages.

Our guide shared many fascinating stories about the Vietnamese soldiers during that time. This visit was deeply meaningful, giving us a better understanding of Vietnam’s history. Moreover, my kids loved the activity of exploring the tunnels.
