Get ready to explore the opinion of Mr. Rabineau about his 2-day itinerary – 48 hours in Vang Vieng.
We just spent 2 incredible days in Vang Vieng, creating unforgettable memories. Vang Vieng is truly a hidden gem, boasting breathtaking landscapes of mountains, forests, and rivers. The range of activities is impressive: kayaking, trekking, hot air ballooning, and river swimming. My only regret? Not staying longer!
Fortunately, my 2 days itinerary in Vang Vieng was perfectly planned, thanks to the expert travel advice from Autour Asia, a Laos tour agency. I highly recommend this destination to anyone visiting Laos – it’s a must!
We left Vientiane in a minivan, excited to kick off our 2 days adventure in Vang Vieng. After a scenic 3 hours drive through misty mountains and lush valleys, we finally arrived in the late morning — just in time for lunch.
The weather in Vang Vieng 2 days in January was cooler than in the capital, making it perfect for outdoor exploration. We chose to stay in riverside accommodation, ideal for water activities and discovering the surrounding area.
Let the adventure begin! Our first stop in this 2 days itinerary in Vang Vieng was the stunning Nam Song River, where we had an unforgettable kayaking experience. As we paddled, we were surrounded by the majestic karst cliffs of Vang Vieng, rising dramatically above the water.
Another popular activity on the Nam Song River is tubing, a relaxing way to float down the river on a giant inflatable tube—a perfect alternative for those who prefer a laid-back ride.
We ended this amazing afternoon by watching a breathtaking sunset over the river, a truly magical moment.
We explored the vibrant streets of Vang Vieng downtown, just a 5 minutes walk from the river. The lively atmosphere, with street food stalls, bars, and souvenir shops, made for a great evening stroll. Shopping was a challenge, but successfully bargaining for a good deal was quite satisfying!
For dinner, we went to Le Crabe d’Or Restaurant, which offers both traditional Lao dishes and European favorites like burgers — a delightful mix of flavors.
To end the first day of our 2 days itinerary in Vang Vieng, I treated myself to a relaxing foot massage for only 30,000 Kip (just over $1 USD) — pure bliss after a day of adventure!
On the final day of our 2 days itinerary in Vang Vieng, we woke up early to make the most of our time in this incredible place. Our first activity of the day was a hike to Nam Xay Viewpoint, a relatively accessible yet challenging trail. After about 30 minutes of climbing, we were rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Vang Vieng’s lush valleys below.
After this energizing morning, we had lunch at Sae Lao Project, an eco-friendly restaurant with a beautiful terrace and delicious local cuisine. I particularly enjoyed their fresh salad, a dish that perfectly captured the authentic flavors of Vang Vieng.
Following lunch, we visited Blue Lagoon and Tham Phu Kham Cave, which quickly became our favorite spots of the trip.
We started with a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Lagoon, where we also had fun playing in the water.
Next, we explored Tham Phu Kham Cave. The entrance was a bit slippery and dark, but once inside, we were amazed by a massive Buddha statue sitting at the center of the cave, creating a truly mystical atmosphere.
Evening:
After we visited the Blue Lagoon, we took a short break before heading to Mai Pai Restaurant, famous for its uniquely flavored pizzas — delicious and easy to enjoy!
We then took a final stroll through Vang Vieng’s lively town center, tasting some local street food before heading back to our hotel to pack up. It was time to board our bus to Luang Prabang, our next destination in Laos. End of the 2-day itinerary in Vang Vieng.
