Our 4-day Tien Giang Ben Tre itinerary started from Ho Chi Minh City, as we left the busy urban life behind to enter the peaceful atmosphere of the Mekong Delta. Traveling from Saigon to Tien Giang is easy and takes just over two hours. Arriving around noon, we stopped for lunch and a short rest. The slower pace of life immediately made us feel relaxed during this Mekong Delta tour.
In the afternoon, we reached Cai Be town. The first highlight of our 4-day Mekong Delta itinerary was Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village, one of the four most famous ancient villages in Vietnam. We were truly impressed by the centuries-old houses, blending traditional Vietnamese architecture with French influences. The carved wooden details, green gardens and historical stories reflect the deep cultural value of a Mekong Delta itinerary.
Later in the afternoon, we returned to My Tho, the central quarter of Tien Giang for the night. The evening atmosphere was pleasant and not too crowded. We strolled around the night market, tasted delicious and affordable specialties of My Tho, and ended our first day in Tien Giang in a relaxed way.
Day two of our 4-day Mekong Delta itinerary starts with iconic attractions that help us better understand the culture, lifestyle, and natural environment of southern Vietnam. After breakfast, we visit Vinh Trang Pagoda, one of the must-see sites when you visit the Mekong Delta. What impressed me most was its unique architecture, blending Asian and European styles, influenced by five cultures: Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese, French, and Roman.
At noon, we take a boat trip to Thoi Son Islet, one of my favorite experiences during our 4 days in Tien Giang Ben Tre. The peaceful river scenery, lush orchards, and friendly locals perfectly capture the spirit of the Mekong Delta tour. We enjoy fresh tropical fruits directly in the garden while listening to don ca tai tu, a traditional Southern Vietnamese music style that I highly recommend to travelers interested in local arts and culture.

In the afternoon, our journey continues to Dong Tam Snake Farm, a unique stop on any Mekong Delta trip. Home to thousands of snake species from Vietnam and around the world, the visit is surprisingly engaging and educational. We learned a lot about snake conservation and research. On day three of our Tien Giang Ben Tre itinerary 4 days, we leave Tien Giang and spend the next 2 days in Ben Tre, famously known as the coconut kingdom of the Mekong Delta. This destination is essential in any Vietnam Mekong Delta tour, offering authentic river experiences and unique rural landscapes, very different from the vast rice fields I had previously seen in northern Vietnam.
We truly enjoyed a boat cruise along the Ben Tre River, a major tributary of the Mekong, definitely one of the best things to do in Ben Tre. Once you arrive here, visiting Ben Tre craft villages is a must-do, so the boat takes us to a traditional brick factory where bricks are still handmade using age-old techniques. We then visit local workshops to see how mats are woven and how famous Ben Tre coconut candies are made. Tasting these candies on-site, with their perfect balance of sweetness and chewy texture, was unforgettable.
After enjoying tropical fruits in a lush orchard, we switch to a small rowing boat to explore deeper into the narrow canals (arroyos) lined with water coconut trees. The peaceful atmosphere, reflections on the water, and surrounding greenery create a true experience that I would recommend for an itinerary 4 days in Tien Giang Ben Tre, especially ideal for photography lovers.
At the end of the day, we arrive at our rural homestay in Ben Tre. In the evening, we join the host family to prepare banh xeo, a specialty of Ben Tre and also a famous Southern Vietnamese dish. These crispy pancakes filled with shrimp and fresh herbs left a lasting impression on our Ben Tre trip. Southern Vietnamese cuisine, and Vietnamese traditional food in general, truly exceeded our expectations.
The last day of our 4-day Mekong Delta itinerary started very gently. Around 8 a.m., we borrowed bicycles and began cycling in Ben Tre to explore the surrounding villages and the local market. The morning weather in Ben Tre was pleasantly cool, making it ideal for cycling through the countryside. Along the way, we passed lush vegetation, small canals, and scenes of locals working in their orchards. This part of our Mekong Delta trip gave us the chance to interact with local people and observe the simple daily life of the Mekong Delta region.
Beyond its reputation as the “kingdom of coconut trees,” Ben Tre is also considered a major fruit-growing area of southern Vietnam. During our ride, we easily came across green, fruit-laden orchards. Orchard owners warmly welcomed visitors and invited us to hand-pick and taste seasonal fruits such as rambutan, star apple, durian, and longan, an authentic highlight of our Ben Tre tour.
Most orchards offer open, shaded spaces with hammocks under the trees, allowing visitors to relax. We stopped at one orchard to pick fruit, enjoy fresh coconut water, chat with locals, and listen to traditional Southern Vietnamese folk music. These were truly precious and authentic moments we had hoped for, making our 4 days in the Mekong Delta even more memorable.
