If you love exploring the unique cultures of Southeast Asian countries, don’t miss out on Laos and Cambodia—two neighboring nations rich in history and traditions. I explored several iconic sites in both countries and was amazed by the stunning scenery throughout my 15-day Laos Cambodia itinerary. I noticed that these two nations share interesting cultural similarities due to their common colonial past and the deep influence of Buddhism. However, they each maintain their own distinct identity, especially in architecture, culture, and most notably, in cuisine, customs, and the way of life of the local people.
I had an unforgettable experience during my Laos trip. I explored Laos' most famous cities, such as Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, and Vientiane, as part of my Laos Cambodia combined trip. In addition to visiting the best places to visit in Laos, I enjoyed exciting outdoor activities, such as observing elephants at a sanctuary, relaxing at Kuang Si Waterfalls, kayaking, and more. I also dined at local restaurants, and the traditional Laotian dishes were absolutely delicious.
During my Laos Cambodia 15-day trip, I mainly focused on exploring Siem Reap and the Angkor temples while staying in Cambodia. Watching the sunset over the temples of Angkor Wat is an absolute must when visiting Cambodia. I also visited other iconic sites, including the Roluos temple complex and Ta Prohm. During my Cambodia trip, I was warmly welcomed, and I found the Cambodian people to be incredibly friendly and hospitable.

Traveling to Cambodia Laos 15 days, we chose Luang Prabang as a first spot for this trip. With many historical sites of great cultural value, Luang Prabang was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. If you are passionate about religious architecture, Luang Prabang is a must-visit destination during your 15-day Laos Cambodia trip. I visited several remarkable Buddhist sites, such as the Khmer temple of Vat Phou, Vat Aham, which features murals depicting the life of Buddha, and Wat Xieng Thong, one of the oldest temples in Laos. I also learned a lot about the history of Lao kings when I visited the National Museum, located in the former Royal Palace. And don’t forget to explore the Hmong Night Market when in Luang Prabang—one of the best things to do in Laos to experience local culture, where you can discover traditional handicrafts.
What to do in Luang Prabang, Laos? On the third day of my 15-day Laos Cambodia combined trip, I visited a nature park located about 20 km from Luang Prabang, home to the famous Kuang Si Waterfall. Nicknamed the Land of a Million Elephants, Laos has a deep connection with elephants, and the Lao people greatly respect this majestic animal. They even have an Elephant Festival to honor their sacred bond with these creatures and preserve their traditional culture. That’s why your Laos Cambodia 15 days itinerary wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Mandalao Elephant Conservation Center, where you can see elephants up close and observe their natural behaviors in an ethical and respectful environment.
My Laos Cambodia 15-day trip continued with a train journey from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng. Along the way, I had the chance to admire breathtaking landscapes of majestic mountains, vast plains, and lush green rice fields. After that, I returned to town to rest before setting off for Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
Where to go in Laos? In Vientiane, I continued exploring the famous Buddhist landmarks of Laos. I visited the Buddha Park, home to more than 200 Buddha statues, Wat Sisaket, renowned for its thousands of small Buddha images lined along the walls, and Wat Phra Keo, which once housed the Emerald Buddha. At the end of the day, I explored Talat Sao Market, the largest market in Laos, where I could find unique souvenirs and experience the lively local shopping scene before wrapping up my day in Vientiane.
