Hello everyone, my name is Cerisier. I want to share with you my 5 days trip to Vang Vieng with my fiancée in November. It must be said that it is a small poetic district, located about 150 km from Vientiane. It has become a popular destination in Laos, attracting tourists looking for adventure and beautiful landscapes. Passionate about discovering nature and outdoor activities such as rock climbing, kayaking and zip lining, we found Vang Vieng to be the perfect place to visit. Next, I will introduce you to our detailed 5-day itinerary in Vang Vieng.
During our 5-day tour in Vang Vieng, we experienced a fascinating place that combines wild nature and interesting activities. Each day, we explored breathtaking landscapes, mysterious caves, and sparkling rivers. Mornings were often spent hiking or tubing on Nam Song River, while afternoons were reserved for adventures like rock climbing and ziplining. In addition to physical activities, we took the time to taste local dishes and immerse ourselves in Lao culture. In Vang Vieng, we felt disconnected from the turbulence of modern society, completely at peace and in harmony with the surrounding environment.
Visiting Vang Vieng for 5 days is an exciting experience for several reasons:
Every day, we were able to explore new horizons and enjoy the diversity of this captivating destination.
The best time to visit Vang Vieng is from October to March. We went in late November, enjoying a pleasant climate with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. The dry season offers very little rain, which allows us to explore the tourist attractions without interruption and participate in many activities, such as hiking and cycling.
There are two ways to come Vang Vieng:
On the morning of the first day, we arrived at Vientiane Airport at 8 am. Here, we had a light breakfast and traveled to Vang Vieng by bus to save time and enjoy the scenery along the way.
Among the hotels, we chose to stay at Vang Vieng Central Park Hotel. This is one of the 3-star hotels located right in downtown of Vang Vieng, with modern, comfortable and extremely clean facilities and a unique layout that emphasizes the use of natural light, giving us the feeling of being immersed in the vast nature of Vang Vieng.
In the afternoon, we decided to visit the Blue Lagoon, located about 7 km from Vang Vieng. This natural site is a true haven of peace, with its deep lagoons with bright blue waters. On our way there, we were able to immerse ourselves in a picturesque setting, embellished with small waterfalls on several levels, creating a fresh and tranquil atmosphere.
The Blue Lagoon also provides an ideal terrain for various Adrenaline activities. Upon arrival, we felt an adrenaline rush as we performed somersaults from the heights or launched ourselves on the zip line. In addition, hanging chairs, hung from the trees on the surrounding hill, allowed us to relax while admiring the majestic landscape around us. It was an unforgettable experience, mixing adventure and serenity.
In the evening, the atmosphere transforms into a veritable festival of beer pubs, delicious street food and lively but pleasantly quiet bars. These places perfectly reflect the pace of life and the personality of the locals, both cheerful and relaxed. After enjoying a few refreshing beers, we decided to return to our hotel to rest and prepare for our trekking planned for the next morning. It was a great way to end our day, soaking up the friendly atmosphere of Vang Vieng.
Our second day of 5 days in Vang Vieng started with Tham Jang Cave, accessible by a scenic path. This cave, known for its historical and cultural significance, offers a mystical atmosphere with its impressive rock formations. In addition to Tham Jang, we explored Tham Sang and Tham Nam Caves by tubing, a thrilling experience. We also kayaked across Nam Song River, where we enjoyed grilled meat served on banana leaves, a Laotian specialty not to be missed.
Finally, to end the day, we opted for a relaxing activity on Nam Song River. Sitting in our kayak, we marveled at the natural beauty of Vang Vieng, letting our thoughts drift with the current while enjoying the serenity of the water.
Climbing Pha Hon Kham Mountain was a memorable adventure. With 13km of winding trails, it leads to one of the highest peaks in Vang Vieng, and we knew we had to prepare well. We made sure to bring good climbing gear, as the sharp rocks and steep slopes make the climb demanding. Every step was a challenge, but the reward at the top was incredible. We were lucky enough to witness a spectacular sunrise, where the first rays of light bathed the landscape in golden hues. The lush green valleys below, illuminated by this natural spectacle, made this climb an unforgettable experience, combining physical exertion with dazzling beauty.
Taking a hot air balloon ride in the late afternoon also gave us a magical experience. Around 4 p.m, we took off, and the excitement was building as we gained altitude. The panoramic view of Vang Vieng was breathtaking, with the mountains rising majestically around the valley. The sky lit up with orange and pink hues, creating a vivid tableau that I will never forget. Floating gently in the air, I felt a deep peace, awestruck by the natural beauty that stretched as far as the eye could see. This moment, suspended in time, was a true treasure of nature.
The next day on our 5-day journey to Vang Vieng began with tubing on Nam Song River. To participate in this iconic activity, simply sign up at an office in town, and a tuk-tuk whisked us 4 km upriver. Once there, we settled into our tubes, ready to drift along the river. For about 2 hours, we glided along the water, stopping at riverside bars for refreshing ice cream. This adventure allowed us to experience some beautiful scenery while having fun.
In addition to tubing, we explored the Laotian countryside by bike. It was relaxing to pedal through golden rice paddies and shady forests, discovering ancient caves like Phou Kham. Every pedal stroke was a new discovery.
After these adventures, we decided to relax in a picturesque setting. An al fresco dinner followed by a spa session was the perfect way to conclude our stay. These moments of relaxation were essential after so much activity, allowing us to fully enjoy our experience in Vang Vieng 5 days.
Our last moments in Vang Vieng 5 days were filled with slow rhythm. We started by shopping in the local markets, where we found beautiful handcrafted souvenirs, such as fabric bags and handmade jewelry. My fiancée and I were impressed by the quality of the products, reflecting the local know-how. Then, we enjoyed a last walk along the river, admiring the peaceful landscape and natural beauty of the surroundings. As we walked, we shared our final impressions: Vang Vieng conquered us with its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.
Our 5-day Vang Vieng trip provided us an incredible experience, mixing adventure and relaxation. Between tubing on Nam Song River, hiking in Pha Hon Kham and cycling through breathtaking landscapes, every moment was magical. We also enjoyed the local culture and cuisine. Vang Vieng left us with unforgettable memories, and we leave with our hearts filled with joy and wonder. Many thanks to Autour Asia, my Laos tour agency for accompanying me throughout the trip.
