Recommendation Of 5 Days In Central Highlands Vietnam By Mr. Denis

Explore 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam with Mr. Denis

I had often heard about the Central Highlands of Vietnam as a world apart — preserved and full of life. I finally had the chance to spend 5 days in Buon Ma Thuot - Da Lat, a unique journey blending breathtaking landscapes, age-old traditions, and rare hospitality. Thanks to the Vietnam travel agency – Autour Asia, I experienced full immersion, from the gentle charm of coffee plantations to the misty forests of Da Lat. These 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam gave me an unforgettable adventure, far from the beaten path.

I. Why travel to Central Highlands Vietnam for 5 days?

The Central Highlands of Vietnam are not yet among the most visited destinations — and that’s exactly what makes them so special. By choosing 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam, I was able to immerse myself in a preserved region at the crossroads of ethnic traditions, coffee culture, and breathtaking landscapes.

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere for 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam

From the very beginning, I knew this journey would be unlike any other. Far from the hustle and bustle of major cities, I found a calm and welcoming atmosphere in Buon Ma Thuot and Da Lat 5 days. What truly made the difference was the support of the Vietnam travel agency – Autour Asia: smooth organization, passionate guides, and above all, a deep understanding of what I was looking for as a curious, French-speaking traveler.

II. How to plan 5 days in Buon Ma Thuot - Da Lat?

1. Authentic journey with a Vietnam travel agency

Planning a trip to the Central Highlands of Vietnam can seem daunting at first, with the distances, winding mountain roads, language barrier, and the desire to get off the beaten track. However, thanks to Autour Asia, a Vietnam travel agency, everything was incredibly smooth. Their personalized support allowed me to fully focus on discovery, with no stress or unexpected issues.

During these 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam, you’ll be fully immersed in nature

These 5 days in Buon Ma Thuot - Da Lat were thoughtfully designed to balance sightseeing, quiet moments, human encounters, and cultural immersion. It avoided overly touristy places while still including the must-sees.

2. Smooth and well-balanced itinerary structure

The itinerary followed a logical and progressive flow, making the transition between the 2 regions seamless:

  • Day 1 - 2: Explore Buon Ma Thuot and dive into the local culture
  • Day 3: Travel to Da Lat with several scenic and cultural stops
  • Day 4 - 5: Deep discovery of Da Lat, with its cool climate and heritage

Each day of these 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam struck a great balance between adventure, relaxation, and meaningful encounters. Being accompanied by a passionate and caring French-speaking guide made the experience even more memorable.

3. Short on time? Another traveller's 3-day version

Another traveller, Mr. Cherrat, covered Buon Ma Thuot and Da Lat in just 3 days with Autour Asia. His plan is a good fit if you cannot spare five:

  • Day 1, Buon Ma Thuot: the Trung Nguyen Coffee Museum and a coffee tasting in the morning, an Ede village and its traditional longhouse in the afternoon, then dinner by Lak Lake with grilled chicken (ga nuong) and bamboo rice (com lam).
  • Day 2, Da Lat: the road to Da Lat takes about three hours on mountain roads. Once there, he walked in the Valley of Love, a pine-fringed valley that is a little touristy but scenic, hiked down to Datanla Waterfalls and browsed Da Lat Market for strawberries and mut, the traditional local jams.
  • Day 3, highland landscapes: a quiet morning at Tuyen Lam Lake, where you can take a boat, the greenhouses of Van Thanh Flower Farm, the colonial-style Domaine de Marie Church and a last stroll around Xuan Huong Lake.

His advice: even on a short trip, do not rush. Take the scenic routes, try the local specialties and let the slower pace of the highlands set the rhythm.

III. Detailed 5 days itinerary in Central Highlands Vietnam

1. Day 1 – Buon Ma Thuot: A coffee-fueled immersion

As soon as I landed in Buon Ma Thuot, I felt I was in a different world. The air was drier, the hills stretched endlessly, and the aroma of coffee lingered everywhere. The day began with a visit to the Trung Nguyen Coffee Museum — a must for anyone interested in Vietnam’s coffee culture. The modern architecture contrasted beautifully with the history inside. I learned about the production and roasting process and enjoyed a peaceful coffee tasting session.

Ea Kao lake

In the afternoon, we headed to Ea Kao Lake, a local favorite for relaxation. I watched fishermen casting their nets, children playing by the water, and couples strolling along the banks. The day ended with a traditional dinner featuring bo nuong la lot — grilled beef wrapped in lolot leaves — paired with a locally brewed craft beer.

2. Day 2 – Local culture and highland adventure

The second day was dedicated to meeting local ethnic groups, especially the Ede people. I was welcomed into a traditional village rarely visited by tourists. The villagers invited me to share lunch: sticky rice, grilled fish, and wild vegetables.

Traditional Ede House

Visiting a traditional Ede house left a lasting impression on me. Built on stilts, the wooden architecture, ritual objects, and stories from the elders offered a window into their lifestyle and connection to nature.

In the afternoon, I explored coffee and pepper plantations with a passionate local farmer. He showed me the differences between Arabica and Robusta varieties, harvesting techniques, and even let me try picking the berries myself. This day was a true highlight of my 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam.

3. Day 3 – Journey to Da Lat's flower fields

The third day of my 5-day trip to Buon Ma Thuot and Da Lat was all about the journey between the two cities, filled with fascinating stops. First, we visited the Dray Nur Waterfall — one of the most spectacular in the region. The powerful roar, refreshing mist, and lush surroundings offered a rejuvenating pause.

Next, we stopped at Cu Lan Village, nestled in a forested valley. This peaceful spot, blending tradition and eco-tourism, won me over with its authenticity. I had lunch in a wooden house with stunning mountain views.

Later that day, we arrived in Da Lat. The change in atmosphere was striking — cooler air, pine forests, colonial villas, and an almost European feel. A quick stroll around Xuan Huong Lake gave me a first taste of what Da Lat had in store.

4. Day 4 – Nature and unique architecture in the highlands

Waking up in the calm of Da Lat, I knew this would be one of the most delightful days of the trip. After a local breakfast at the market with banh can (mini rice pancakes cooked over wood fire), I headed to the Da Lat Botanical Gardens — a riot of colors and scents, from orchids to hydrangeas and lilies growing in natural harmony.

In the afternoon, I visited the Crazy House — a surreal architectural masterpiece blending raw art and fantasy. Then, I wandered through the French Quarter, with its charming colonial villas and flowered balconies.

Dinner was a comforting chicken hot pot, infused with a local citrusy herb — the perfect end to a rich day of discoveries.

5. Day 5 – Visiting Da Lat’s peaceful lakes

On the final day of my 5 days in Central Highlands Vietnam, Autour Asia arranged a light hike to the Prenn Pass. The panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains were breathtaking.

We then stopped at Truc Lam Monastery, a serene retreat perched above Tuyen Lam Lake. The peaceful atmosphere and manicured gardens inspired quiet reflection.
Lunch was at an organic farm, where I enjoyed seasonal vegetables and refined vegetarian dishes. Before leaving, I stopped at a strawberry greenhouse and picked a few juicy berries to take home.

These 5 days in Buon Ma Thuot and Da Lat offered a perfect blend of authenticity, nature, and living traditions. Thanks to the Vietnam travel agency – Autour Asia, I experienced a stress-free, well-organized, and emotionally rich journey. I highly recommend this type of itinerary to travelers eager to explore a lesser-known yet deeply rewarding side of Vietnam.
