Anne Couple’s Impression About Their 24h Trip In Sihanoukville

Spend 24 hours in Sihanoukville to explore the poetic landscape of this city

Sihanoukville is a port city in southern Cambodia and one of the top places to visit in Cambodia, famous for its beautiful beaches. This place attracts tourists not only with its stunning landscapes but also with its delicious and flavorful seafood. Due to our limited time, my wife and I could only spend 24 hours in Sihanoukville during our Cambodia trip, but for us, it was a complete and fulfilling experience. If you have a short vacation but still want to enjoy the warmth of the seaside, feel free to check out our Sihanoukville 24-hour itinerary.

I. Overview of our 24-hour itinerary in Sihanoukville

We left Phnom Penh early in the morning by car, and after about three hours on the road, we arrived at our hotel in the city center of Sihanoukville, marking the beginning of our 1-day trip to Sihanoukville. Instead of heading straight to the beach, we decided to take a short walk to explore the surroundings before making our way to Wat Leu Pagoda. Located only about 5 km from the city center, it took us around 20 minutes to reach it by car.

What to do in Sihanoukville? Returning to the city center by noon, we enjoyed a local lunch before taking a short rest at our hotel. In the early afternoon, we headed to Serendipity Beach to swim, admire the scenery, and relax – the main purpose of our 1-day trip to Sihanoukville. After swimming, we enjoyed some cold beers along with grilled seafood, perfectly complementing the seaside atmosphere.

In the evening, we took a leisurely walk along the shore before exploring the city center, including Phsar Leu Market. Our 24h in Sihanoukville was a peaceful and pleasant experience, offering us not only spiritual and cultural discoveries but also moments of pure relaxation and entertainment.

II. Detailed itinerary of our 1-day trip to Sihanoukville

1. Morning: Exploring the city center and Wat Leu pagoda

On a Sihanoukville day trip, We left Phnom Penh early in the morning to head to our next destination in Cambodia – the coastal city of Sihanoukville. The journey took about four hours, passing through rice fields and small villages, gradually taking us away from the bustling capital. After spending a few days exploring Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, we were looking for a place to relax and unwind under the warm sun, which is why we chose Sihanoukville.

So, what to do in Sihanoukville if you only have 24 hours in Sihanoukville ? We quickly checked into our hotel, dropped off our luggage, and took a short walk to explore the area. Compared to Phnom Penh, this seaside town has a much slower pace of life, with fresher and calmer air. After a brief rest, we took a taxi to Wat Leu Pagoda, one of the must-visit sites in Sihanoukville, located about 5 km from the city center. The temple was peaceful in the morning, providing a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Since it is situated on a hill, the pagoda offers a stunning panoramic view of the city’s beaches. After walking around the temple, we had an insightful conversation with an elderly monk about its history before sitting down to soak in the tranquility.

By the time we returned to the city center, it was already noon. We chose a local restaurant and ordered crab amok, one of the best specialties in Sihanoukville. This is a crab curry cooked with coconut milk, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves. The rich, fragrant flavors were absolutely delightful. Sitting in a small roadside restaurant, enjoying fresh seafood while embracing the slow pace of life in this beach town, made the trip even more memorable. After lunch, we went back to the hotel for a quick rest before continuing our Sihanoukville 24h itinerary in the afternoon.

2. Afternoon & Evening: Relaxing at Serendipity beach – Visiting Phsar Leu market

Spending 1 day in Sihanoukville, we headed to Serendipity beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Sihanoukville. This was the highlight of our 1-day trip to Sihanoukville – pure relaxation. I joined a volleyball game with some tourists and locals on the sand, while my wife lounged on a beach chair, gazing at the sea and enjoying the refreshing ocean breeze. Later, we both went for a swim, floating effortlessly in the cool water.

As the sun started to set, we found ourselves joining a lively beach party, sipping cocktails and dancing with fellow travelers. This is one of the best things to do in Sihanoukville if you’re planning your trip to Sihanoukville. After swimming, we sat down at a beachfront restaurant, ordered cold beers and grilled seafood. Shrimp, squid, and fish were grilled over charcoal, releasing a tantalizing aroma. Dipped in a tangy salt-pepper-lime sauce, the seafood tasted even more delicious. We enjoyed the simplicity of this moment, feeling completely relaxed during our 24 hours in Sihanoukville.

What to do in Sihanoukville at night? We took a stroll along the beach before heading back to the city center. Unlike other major tourist destinations, Sihanoukville has a laid-back charm, with small streets and cozy shops. Our next stop on our Sihanoukville 24h itinerary was Phsar Leu Market, the busiest shopping hub in the city, bustling with both tourists and locals. From local specialties to handmade jewelry and delicious street food, the market was full of vibrant energy.
