7 days trip to Siem Reap Cambodia
Are you planning a 7-day trip to Siem Reap Cambodia, but unsure where to start? Want to explore the awe-inspiring temples of Angkor, immerse yourself in local culture, and savor authentic Khmer cuisine - all while making the most of your time and budget? No worries! This expertly designed itinerary will help you craft the perfect adventure. Take inspiration from Autour Asia’s specially curated 7-day trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia, for Mr. Galvin and his friends, featuring must-see historical landmarks, cultural experiences, and essential travel tips. Get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Cambodia!

We had an unforgettable 7-day trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia in March 2024, expertly organized by Autour Asia. From witnessing the sunrise at Angkor Wat to exploring hidden jungle temples, floating villages, and scenic waterfalls, every moment was a perfect mix of history, culture, and adventure. The warmth of the Khmer people, rich traditions, and delicious cuisine made the experience even more special. Siem Reap quickly became one of our favorite destinations, offering a seamless blend of discovery and relaxation. Here’s a day-by-day look at our incredible journey!

1. Day 1: Arrival at Siem Reap

From the moment we landed at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, we were greeted with warm smiles by Autour Asia’s professional tour guide and driver. Holding a personalized welcome sign, our guide ensured a seamless transition from the airport to the heart of Siem Reap.
As we made our way to the hotel, our guide shared fascinating insights into the vibrant city, offering a glimpse into local life, history, and culture. Once we arrived at the hotel, we checked in and had the rest of the day free to unwind and explore at our own pace. That night, we rested in anticipation of the adventures ahead.
✨ Insider tip:
If you arrive early and have some energy left, take a stroll around Pub Street or the Old Market - both are great spots to experience Siem Reap’s lively atmosphere, sample local delicacies, and shop for unique souvenirs.

2. Day 2: Discovering Banteay Srei - Angkor Grand Circle

Banteay Srei (Siem Reap)
On the second day of 7-day trip to Siem Reap Cambodia, after a delightful breakfast, we set out to explore the mesmerizing Banteay Samre and Banteay Srei, famously known as the “Jewel of Khmer Art”. Dating back to the 10th century, Banteay Srei captivated us with its intricate pink sandstone carvings and delicate details- earning it the nickname “Lady Temple.”
For lunch, we enjoyed authentic Cambodian flavors at a charming local restaurant before continuing our journey through the Angkor Grand Circle, visiting some of Angkor’s most awe-inspiring temples: Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Ta Som, and Pre Rup. As the sun began to set, we witnessed a breathtaking sunset from one of the temples, creating a picture-perfect moment to end the day. That evening, we returned to the hotel, eager for the next day’s adventure.
✨  Tip:
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring plenty of water. Some temple sites are vast and require a fair amount of walking. A hat and sunscreen are also highly recommended as shade can be limited.

3. Day 3: Sunrise over Angkor Wat and exploring the mystical ruins of Angkor

Sunrise over Angkor Wat
Before dawn, we set off for Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument, to witness one of the most spectacular sunrises on Earth. As the first rays of sunlight bathed the ancient temple in golden hues, we felt a deep connection to this UNESCO-listed wonder.
After exploring the stunning Angkor Wat complex, we returned to the hotel for breakfast before continuing to the South Gate of Angkor Thom and the Bayon Temple, famous for its serene stone faces. Our journey led us through the grand city of Angkor Thom, where we explored Baphuon, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King.
Ta Prohm
The highlight of the afternoon was Ta Prohm, famously known as the “Tomb Raider Temple.” Engulfed by massive tree roots, Ta Prohm offered a glimpse into what Angkor might have looked like when it was rediscovered centuries later.
After an enriching day, we returned to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.
✨ Insider tip:
Arrive at Angkor Wat before 5:00 AM for the best sunrise spot near the left-hand pond - perfect for capturing that postcard-worthy reflection.

4. Day 4: Hidden temples in the jungle -  Beng Mealea and Koh Ker

Venturing off the beaten path, we embarked on an adventure to Beng Mealea and Koh Ker, two lesser-known yet equally captivating temple sites. Located 120 km from Siem Reap, Koh Ker was once the capital of the Khmer Empire in the 10th century. Here, we explored Prasat Thom, Cambodia’s first seven-tiered pyramid temple, Linga Pura, and Prasat Pram, where ancient trees intertwined with temple ruins, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
Explore Beng Mealea
After lunch, we continued to Beng Mealea, an abandoned temple hidden in the jungle. Walking through its crumbling corridors felt like stepping into an Indiana Jones movie. This was one of the most thrilling experiences of our trip!
✨ Tip:
Wear long pants and insect repellent—these temples are located deep in the jungle, and mosquitos can be persistent. A flashlight is also useful for exploring the darker corners of Beng Mealea.

5. Day 5: A floating world - Tonle Sap lake and  Prek Toal Bird sanctuary

The next morning, we boarded a traditional wooden boat and glided across Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Our first stop was Prek Toal floating village, where we witnessed an extraordinary way of life - houses, schools, and markets all floating on water!
Tonle Sap lake
We then sailed further to the Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary, a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. As we cruised through the wetlands, we spotted rare species like Black-headed Ibis, Painted Storks, and Spot-billed Pelicans.
Visiting Prek Toal was also a way to support sustainable tourism, as a portion of our entrance fee helped fund conservation programs and local education initiatives.
✨ Tip:
Bring binoculars for a better view of the exotic birdlife. Also, sunscreen and a light scarf will help protect you from the sun during the boat ride.

6. Day 6: The sacred Phnom Kulen waterfall and local village experience

Phnom Kulen National Park
For our final full day in Cambodia, we journeyed to Phnom Kulen National Park, a sacred mountain and the birthplace of the Khmer Empire.
Driving up the mountain, we were rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. At the summit, we visited the largest reclining Buddha statue in Cambodia, carved directly into the natural rock. We then explored the River of a Thousand Lingas, where intricate carvings adorned the riverbed.
The highlight of the day was Phnom Kulen Waterfall, where we took a refreshing dip in the cascading waters. Before heading back to Siem Reap, we visited a local village, where we had the chance to interact with the friendly locals and learn about their way of life.
✨ Tip:
Bring a swimsuit and towel if you plan to swim at the waterfall. Water shoes or sandals with a good grip are also recommended, as the rocks can be slippery.

7. Day 7: Farewell Cambodia

On our last morning in Cambodia, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and reflected on our incredible journey. Soon, it was time to bid farewell to this enchanting land.
Autour Asia arranged our private transfer to Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, ensuring a smooth and stress-free departure. As we boarded our flight, we carried home unforgettable memories of ancient temples, breathtaking landscapes, and the warm hospitality of the Cambodian people.

Our 7-day trip to Siem Reap Cambodia was an unforgettable adventure, filled with history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes. From witnessing the sunrise at Angkor Wat to exploring jungle temples, floating villages, and waterfalls, every moment was a discovery. Thanks to Autour Asia, best travel agency in Hanoi Vietnam, we experienced must-visit landmarks, indulged in Khmer cuisine, and connected with the local culture. Whether wandering through ancient ruins or cruising on Tonle Sap Lake, each experience left a lasting impression. Siem Reap exceeded my expectations, and this journey will stay with me forever.
