After lunch, immerse yourself in the serene beauty of the Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden, created in honor of the Princess Mother. This beautifully landscaped space is home to exotic plants, colorful tropical flowers, and elegant sculptures in a peaceful setting.
In the late afternoon, set off for the legendary Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. You’ll embark on a scenic boat cruise along the Mekong River, once the heart of the opium trade and now a fascinating area full of history and panoramic views. From your boat, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views of the meeting point of the three countries, while learning about the complex past of this strategic region.
At the end of the day, check into your hotel in Chiang Saen, a former capital of the Lanna Kingdom, peacefully set along the banks of the Mekong River. Take time to relax after a day filled with unforgettable sights and cultural experiences.

4. Day 4: Chiang Saen - Thaton - Chiang Mai

After breakfast in Chiang Saen, your 7-day trip in Northern Thailand continues into more mountainous terrain. Leaving the tranquil banks of the Mekong, the road winds through an authentic rural Thailand, with terraced rice fields, wooded hills, and quiet villages nestled in the landscape.
Wat Thaton - Thaton temple viewpoint - 7-day Northern Thailand tour
Your first stop is the peaceful village of Thaton, located along the Kok River near the border with Myanmar. Surrounded by lush hills, Thaton offers panoramic views from the top of Wat Thaton, a pastel-colored temple spread across multiple levels on a hillside. Take a moment to explore the area at your own pace, or browse the local market stalls. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue your journey to Chiang Mai, often called the "Rose of the North". The city’s arrival in the late afternoon marks a shift back to urban life, but still with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy some free time to unwind or explore the surrounding neighborhood.

5. Day 5: Chiang Mai City - Doi Suthep

Temples in Chiang Mai Old Town - cultural Northern Thailand
You’ll start the day with a stroll through the Old City, surrounded by ancient walls and moats. Along the way, you’ll visit two of Chiang Mai’s most iconic temples:

  • Wat Phra Singh, renowned for its refined Lanna architecture and sacred Phra Singh Buddha image.

  • Wat Chedi Luang, where the massive ruined chedi still stands as a powerful reminder of the city’s past grandeur.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep - highlight of Chiang Mai
Next, you’ll head up into the hills to visit the majestic Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, perched more than 1,000 meters above sea level. After climbing the 306 naga-lined steps (or taking a funicular), you’ll reach a golden sanctuary that offers spectacular panoramic views over Chiang Mai and its surrounding valley. A major pilgrimage site, this temple is one of the most sacred symbols in Northern Thailand.
In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to wander through local artisan markets, unwind with a traditional Thai massage, or sip coffee at one of Chiang Mai’s trendy cafés.
