Travel Review Of 3 Weeks In Thailand By The Wilner Family

Travel review of 3 weeks in Thailand by the Wilner family

A Thailand 3 weeks trip is the perfect way to fully immerse yourself in the cultural richness and diverse landscapes of this fascinating kingdom. Accompanied by the Thailand travel company – Autour Asia, the Wilner family embarked on a 21-day journey across the country, traveling from historic cities in the center to peaceful mountains in the north, before ending with idyllic beaches in the south. Their carefully crafted itinerary allowed them to explore the best of Thailand at a family-friendly pace. Their firsthand experience of 3 weeks in Thailand offers valuable insights for anyone planning a similar adventure—blending culture, beach relaxation, and authentic encounters.

Day 1-3: Bangkok

Our Thailand 3 weeks journey began in the vibrant capital, Bangkok, the perfect starting point for these 21 days in Thailand. Accompanied by the French-speaking Thailand travel company – Autour Asia, we were able to explore the must-see sights with complete peace of mind. The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun amazed us with their splendor.

Bangkok – First destination of our Thailand 3 weeks trip

We strolled through the narrow alleys of Chatuchak Market, tasted delicious street food, and admired the city from a cruise along the Chao Phraya River. In the evening, the lively neighborhoods of Sukhumvit and Silom immersed us in the excitement of Thai nightlife. This first leg perfectly launched our Thailand travel diary, combining culture, gastronomy, and modernity.

Hotel: Galleria 10 Hotel (Sukhumvit)

Day 4-5: Ayutthaya et Lopburi

We continued our Thailand 3 weeks adventure heading to Ayutthaya, the ancient kingdom’s former capital. The UNESCO-listed ruins are best explored by bicycle through vine-covered temples. This historic site truly immersed our family in Thailand’s grand past.

Ayutthaya – the ancient capital of the kingdom

Next, we journeyed to Lopburi, a fascinating city famed for its cheeky monkeys that roam freely among the ruins. The kids absolutely loved this quirky stop. Blending history and wild nature, it added wonderful variety to our itinerary.

Hotel: Ban Bua Resort, Ayutthaya

Day 6-7: Sukhothai

Sukhothai offered a peaceful and inspiring leg of our Thailand 3 weeks journey. Its historical park, a World Heritage Site, is a cultural gem. We cycled among ruins in the soft, golden morning light. Surrounded by lotus ponds, the temples created a uniquely spiritual atmosphere.

We also visited an incense workshop where our children made their own fragrant sticks—a playful and educational experience that enriched our Thailand travel diary with sensory and poetic memories.

Hotel: Ruean Thai Hotel

Day 8-10: Chiang Mai

In Chiang Mai, our immersion in northern Thailand reached new depths. This charming city was perfect for cultural discovery, from Doi Suthep temple to artisanal night markets.

Chiang Mai is famous for its temples with unique architecture

We also hiked in the nearby mountains and visited an ethical elephant sanctuary. This respectful encounter with elephants left a strong impression on our children — an essential and memorable stop of our Thailand 3 weeks trip.

Hotel: Baan Boo Loo Guesthouse

Day 11-12: Pai

Leaving Chiang Mai, we spent 2 days in Pai, a peaceful mountain refuge. This stop on our Thailand 3 weeks tour offered moments of pure disconnection. From hot springs and rice-terrace strolls to Pai canyon sunsets, each instant was serene. The village’s bohemian cafés and local food stalls charmed us, offering a welcome break from city life.

Day 13-14: Mae Hong Son

Mae Hong Son surprised us completely. Still untouched by mass tourism, this mountainous province is a serene gem. We visited hilltop temples with breathtaking views and shared unique moments with ethnic minority communities. Winding roads cloaked in morning mist added a mystical touch—truly an authentic highlight that enriched our Thailand travel guide.

Day 15: Return to Bangkok

To wrap up the first half of our Thailand 3 weeks trip, we returned briefly to Chiang Mai. We rested, picked up last-minute items at Warorot Market, and indulged in a traditional Thai massage—a perfect transition before flying south.

Day 16-17: Koh Samui

Our beach adventure began on Koh Samui. On arrival, we were enchanted by its long sandy beaches — ideal for a family unwind. We visited the iconic Big Buddha and browsed Lamai Market’s vibrant stalls, tasting tropical fruit along the way.

Koh Samui

Between swims, coconut-tree walks, and serene temple visits, Koh Samui served as a perfect bridge between northern mountains and southern lagoons. It enriched our Thailand travel blog with warm memories and stunning sunsets. We savored every moment on the island — an unmissable part of our 21 days in Thailand.

Hotel: Banana Fan Sea Resort

Day 18-20: Koh Phi Phi

To conclude our beach segment of the Thailand 3 weeks trip, we stayed on Koh Phi Phi. From the moment we arrived, we were awed by turquoise waters, pristine beaches, and that unique island vibe. Though popular, we found ways to enjoy its beauty away from crowds.

Koh Phi Phi

Our trip to Maya Bay was a standout moment, along with swims in secret coves and cliffside walks. The contrast of calm mornings and lively evenings was enchanting. It was the perfect finale to our 21-day southern sequence—relaxation, wonder, and unforgettable memories.

Day 21: Return to Bangkok

On the last day of our 21 days in Thailand, we returned to Bangkok for a calm conclusion. We spent the final hours shopping at MBK Center and savoring one last pad thai in Chinatown — a delicious, relaxing farewell to this fascinating country.
