Review for 2 days itinerary in Ayutthaya Thailand by Mr Clinton

Have you ever dreamed of stepping back in time while soaking in the peaceful charm of a timeless place? Hi, I’m Clinton, a travel enthusiast with a deep love for ancient cultures. Two weeks ago, I left Bangkok to spend 2 days in Ayutthaya, the former royal capital, located just 80 kilometers to the north. Ayutthaya offered me an unforgettable escape: awe-inspiring temple ruins, a serene riverside atmosphere, and vibrant living traditions. The unique blend of spirituality and everyday life truly left a lasting impression. If you're wondering what to do in Ayutthaya in 2 days, or planning your own Ayutthaya 2 day itinerary, keep reading, I’ll share how you can visit Ayutthaya in 2 days and make the most of every moment in this magical place.

I. Overview of Ayutthaya Province, Thailand

Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam, deeply moved me with its remarkable sense of tranquility. This historic city offers a striking contrast to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by a unique atmosphere where history blends harmoniously with everyday life.

What to do in Ayutthaya in 2 days?

Thanks to the thoughtful suggestions from the AUTOUR ASIA team, I was able to make the most of my Ayutthaya 2 day itinerary, uncovering majestic ruins, lively local markets, and the city’s enduring traditions. Spending 2 days in Ayutthaya isn’t just about sightseeing, it’s a journey through time where every step tells a story. Whether you're strolling among ancient temples or enjoying a peaceful river cruise, each moment feels like it's suspended in history.

More than just a place to visit, Ayutthaya gave me a glimpse into the true soul of Thailand: spiritual, warm, and welcoming. It's a memory filled with calm and beauty that will stay with me for years to come. If you're planning to visit Ayutthaya 2 days, this city offers the perfect chance to slow down, reflect, and reconnect, all within just 2 days in Ayutthaya.

II. What to do in Ayutthaya in 2 days? My details review Ayutthaya 2 day itinerary

Day 1: Ayutthaya’s hidden treasures and a riverside evening

What to do in Ayutthaya in 2 days? The first morning of my Ayutthaya 2 day itinerary began peacefully with a visit to the Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I started at Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head nestled in the roots of a tree. The atmosphere is serene, almost spiritual, and I find myself deeply moved by the calm beauty of the place. Next, I headed to Wat Phra Si Sanphet, one of the highlights of my Ayutthaya 2 days trip. Known for its three striking stupas, this former royal palace reflects the grandeur of the ancient Siamese kingdom and offers a perfect moment of reflection in front of its majestic architecture.

Wat Mahathat, a must-see during my 2-day trip to Ayutthaya

For lunch, I stopped at Garden Side Restaurant Meet Up, one of the best restaurants in Ayutthaya, just a kilometer from the park. I ordered yellow curry with bamboo shoots, fried chicken with herbs, and a Tom Yum soup with perch fish. The flavors were mild and well-balanced, with just the right touch of spice. The chicken is crispy outside and tender inside, absolutely delicious. The warm hospitality and cozy setting made the meal even more enjoyable. If you're wondering what to do in Ayutthaya in 2 days, don’t miss a food stop like this!

In the afternoon, I treat myself to a Chao Phraya River cruise, an essential part of any plan to visit Ayutthaya in 2 days. The boat glides gently along the water, offering a different perspective of the city with stunning views of temples and traditional riverside homes. As the sun begins to set, golden rays reflect on the water, bathing the entire landscape in a warm and gentle glow. It's a breathtaking experience and one of the best moments of these 2 days in Ayutthaya.

Baan Pomphet Restaurant

In the evening, I head to Baan Pomphet, a riverside restaurant with a refined and romantic setting, offering a spectacular view of the Chao Phraya River. I tried the grilled river prawns and freshwater snails in red curry soup. The prawns are perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and the Tom Yum Kung soup is absolutely delicious: tangy, mildly spicy, and truly satisfying. If you plan to visit Ayutthaya 2 days, it’s better to reserve in advance as the place is often full!

Discovering the Ayutthaya night market during my 2-day stay in Ayutthaya

To wrap up the first day of my Ayutthaya 2 day itinerary, I head to the Ayutthaya night market, top best things to do in Ayutthaya. It's a vibrant place, filled with colorful stalls, tempting aromas, and sparkling lights. I try grilled meat skewers, fresh seafood, and roti, sweet Thai pancakes that are an irresistible treat. The atmosphere is warm and lively, with street musicians playing traditional music, creating a truly pleasant vibe. Of course, I also pick up a few handmade souvenirs, such as silver jewelry and silk fabrics, to carry a piece of Thailand with me.

Day 2: A day immersed in local life in Ayutthaya: culture, flavors, and relaxation

After a busy first day exploring the historical temples and cruising the Chao Phraya River, I decided to slow down the pace for the second day of my Ayutthaya 2 days visit, opting for a gentler itinerary immersed in local culture and relaxation.

What to do in Ayutthaya in 2 days? To start the day in Ayutthaya, nothing beats a morning visit to the Chao Phrom Market. At dawn, this large local market comes alive with the comings and goings of locals buying fruits, vegetables, flowers, clothing, and local specialties. Take a Ayutthaya tour, you’ll find that the atmosphere is authentic, lively, and very different from the touristy areas. As I walked around, I even discovered a section of the market resembling a small wholesale market, where fruit and vegetable stalls are lined up in impressive quantities.

A morning trip to the Chao Phrom Market

It's also the perfect place for a quick and tasty local breakfast. I indulged in creamy sticky rice with mango. I also picked up some well-marinated grilled pork skewers and a refreshing iced Thai tea. A beautiful way to immerse myself in the daily life of the locals and feel the true rhythm of Ayutthaya during my 2 days in Ayutthaya.

I continued my day with a visit to the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum, just minutes from the city center. This museum is a must-see if you're planning to visit Ayutthaya in 2 days: it showcases treasures discovered in the temples of Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Mahathat, with a room dedicated to each site. You’ll find Buddha relics, jewelry, gold objects, and votive tablets. Visiting this museum left me in awe of the wealth of history and the beauty of the exhibits, allowing me to dive deeper into the soul of this former capital.

On the ground floor of the museum, you can discover a collection of statues, wooden pediments, ceramics, and various other works of art.

After this cultural immersion in Ayutthaya, I felt hungry. I made my way to Pa Porn Traditional Pork Noodles, a small and popular stall among locals — a must-visit if you're wondering what to eat in Ayutthaya in 2 days. Auntie Phon has been perfecting her pork noodle soup for over 50 years. The light and aromatic broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and toppings like minced pork, fish sausage, or grilled pork, are absolutely delicious. The Tom Yum soup, with its red shrimp and crunchy peanuts, offers a perfect balance of flavors. Additionally, they also offer tasty fish balls.

After this cultural exploration during my 2 days in Ayutthaya, it was time to unwind. I headed to Ayutthaya Home Spa & Massage, located on Bang Ian Road. This calm and welcoming place provided me with a true wellness break. I opted for a 60-minute traditional Thai massage, and it was absolutely perfect. The therapist, with her precise and soothing movements, managed to relax every muscle, easing the fatigue accumulated after a day of walking. This moment of relaxation was the perfect end to my Ayutthaya 2 day itinerary: a true comfort before leaving.

III. Best Time to Visit Ayutthaya - Practical Tips

My 2 days in Ayutthaya took place during the hot season, from March to May, a time when temperatures can become overwhelming, with peaks sometimes reaching 37°C in April. It’s essential to prepare well to endure the intense heat. I made sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, wear light clothing, and protect myself from the sun with hats and sunscreen. Don't forget sunglasses to protect your eyes, and plan regular breaks in the shade to avoid heat exhaustion.

If you have the option to plan your trip to Ayutthaya, the cool season from November to February is by far the best time to visit. The ideal time to visit Ayutthaya is between November and February during the cool season. The pleasant temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C and the dry air make visiting historical sites much more enjoyable. This is also the perfect time for photography and local festivals. However, be aware that it is peak tourist season, so it’s a good idea to book in advance.

My Ayutthaya 2 day itinerary was a wonderful blend of culture, local flavors, and relaxation. What to do in Ayutthaya in 2 days? Thanks to the personalized advice from AUTOUR ASIA, Thailand travel company, I explored iconic temples, savored authentic Thai specialties, and fully immersed myself in the atmosphere of this ancient capital. The Chao Phraya River cruise, the visit to the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum, and a traditional Thai massage were perfect moments to wrap up this escape. A 2 days in Ayutthaya trip is both a soothing, cultural, and unforgettable experience.
