1. Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok

After a long flight, I finally landed in Bangkok, this fascinating metropolis known as the "City of Angels." Upon arrival at the airport, my guide greeted me with a warm smile, holding a sign with my name on it. The private transfer to my hotel was seamless, giving me my first glimpse of Bangkok- a city in constant motion, where modernity and tradition coexist harmoniously. 2. Day 2: An authentic Bangkok experience

Our second day in Bangkok offered a full immersion into the city through its local transportation - an experience both vibrant and dynamic!

We started the morning with a pleasant walk to the nearest BTS Skytrain station. This modern and efficient transport system quickly took us to Saphan Taksin station, located along the majestic Chao Phraya River. From there, we boarded a public boat, a scenic way to admire Bangkok from a different perspective. Watching the city unfold from the water, with its mix of towering skyscrapers and traditional temples, was simply mesmerizing.

Our first stop was Tha Tien Pier, the perfect entry point to visit the renowned Grand Palace. This royal complex, with its magnificent architecture and intricate golden details, is an unmissable masterpiece. Inside, the Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) captivated us with its sacred atmosphere and exquisite sculptures.

Next, we hopped on a tuk-tuk - an adventure in itself! Our driver navigated through the lively streets to Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok’s famous flower market. The explosion of colors and intoxicating fragrances created a sensory experience like no other. After a brief stroll, we continued to Wat Pho, home to the impressive 45-meter-long Reclining Buddha. The temple exuded a peaceful serenity, and we took the time to participate in the ritual of dropping coins into 108 bronze bowls for good luck.

To top off an already incredible day, we treated ourselves to a traditional Thai massage at Wat Pho- a perfect way to relax after a busy morning. We returned to our hotel via the Skytrain once again, a quick and convenient way to avoid Bangkok’s notorious traffic.

3. Day 3: Bangkok - Floating markets & Railway market adventure

On the third day of our "7-day Bangkok to Chiang Mai" journey, we ventured beyond Bangkok to explore two of Thailand’s most iconic markets.

Our first stop was the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, a vibrant spectacle of colors and flavors. Gliding through narrow canals in a motorized longtail boat, we were surrounded by wooden boats overflowing with tropical fruits, tempting snacks, and handcrafted souvenirs. The lively atmosphere, filled with the calls of vendors and the mouthwatering scents of Thai delicacies, was intoxicating. Resisting a mango sticky rice or a fresh coconut was nearly impossible! Every moment here felt like a postcard come to life.

Next, we continued to the Maeklong Railway Market, a unique experience. Stalls packed with fresh produce lined the railway tracks, but as the train approached, everything transformed. In a well-practiced choreography, vendors swiftly folded their awnings and moved their goods just in time for the train to pass- only to reset their stalls moments later. Witnessing this incredible precision up close was both thrilling and unforgettable.

By late afternoon, we returned to Bangkok with some free time to explore at our own pace. Whether it was enjoying a rooftop dinner or wandering through the lively streets of Chinatown, Bangkok had endless ways to end the day on a high note.

4. Day 4: From Bangkok to Chiang Mai

On the fourth day of our adventure, we left behind the fast-paced energy of Bangkok and headed north to the peaceful city of Chiang Mai.

What to see in Chiang Mai? Upon arrival, our local guide welcomed us and took us to our hotel. After a quick check-in and some time to freshen up, we were ready to explore Chiang Mai’s cultural and natural wonders.

Our first destination was a Meo hill tribe village, nestled in the mountains of Doi Suthep. This visit offered a fascinating glimpse into a traditional way of life, as the villagers, dressed in their distinctive attire, welcomed us with warmth and curiosity. Observing their customs and handicrafts deepened our appreciation for northern Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.

Next, we ascended Doi Suthep, a sacred mountain overlooking Chiang Mai. After climbing 309 steps, we reached Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of the city’s most iconic temples. The serene ambiance, punctuated by the sound of bells and the scent of incense, was mesmerizing. But the highlight of the day was undoubtedly watching the sunset from the temple, as the golden light bathed Chiang Mai in a breathtaking glow.

5. Day 5: Exploring Chiang Mai & Lanna cooking class

Our fifth day was dedicated to Chiang Mai’s cultural and culinary traditions. The morning began at Worarot Market, a bustling local market by the river. Strolling through the colorful stalls, observing locals go about their day, and inhaling the fragrant spices and tropical fruits provided an authentic glimpse into daily life.

We then took a traditional trishaw (Samlor) ride, passing through Thapae Gate, a well-preserved remnant of Chiang Mai’s ancient city walls. This charming ride led us to two must-visit temples: Wat Chedi Luang, with its majestic ruins, and Wat Phra Singh, a masterpiece of Lanna architecture.

After a delicious lunch, we had some time to relax before an immersive Lanna cooking class in the evening. Hosted by a welcoming local family, the experience began with a tour of their teakwood house and herb garden, where we handpicked fresh ingredients. Under their guidance, we learned to prepare several northern Thai specialties, ending the night with a delightful feast of our own creations.

6. Day 6: Tea plantation escape & Lantern ceremony

On our sixth day, we escaped the city for a tea plantation nestled in the lush hills surrounding Chiang Mai. The scenic drive through the countryside led us to a picturesque tea farm, where we learned about the meticulous process of tea cultivation- from seed selection to harvesting. With bamboo baskets in hand, we joined local tea pickers in carefully plucking fresh leaves, a surprisingly meditative experience. The morning concluded with a tea tasting session, paired with delicious Thai snacks.

Back in Chiang Mai, we spent the evening participating in the Krathong lantern release tradition. As we gently placed floating lanterns on the water, symbolizing the release of worries and negative energy, the moment felt truly magical.

7. Day 7: Departure from Chiang Mai

On our final morning in Chiang Mai, we enjoyed a relaxed start - some chose to wander through the city one last time, while others simply savored a quiet coffee. Then, it was time to head to the airport. Some travelers continued their journey to southern islands like Phuket, while others flew back to Bangkok for their return home.

The fastest option is by plane, with a flight time of about 1 hour and 15 minutes - perfect for saving time, though it’s more expensive (€30-100). If you're looking for an authentic experience, the overnight train is a great alternative. The journey takes 11 to 13 hours, offering a comfortable ride while allowing you to admire the scenery. For a more budget-friendly option, buses take around 8 to 10 hours and cost between €15 and €30, though they are less comfortable than the train.
