Mekong Cruise Experience In Cai Be And Can Tho Of Mrs Eva And Husband

I. Why visit Cai Be and Can Tho in Mekong Delta

As travelers who love exploring authentic destinations, we found the Mekong Delta to be an absolute treasure. Cai Be and Can Tho are the heart of this vibrant region, offering a unique glimpse into rural Vietnamese life. From floating markets bustling with local trade to peaceful canals lined with orchards, these towns perfectly combine culture, nature, and history.

What makes Cai Be and Can Tho truly special is the sense of immersion. Unlike typical tourist spots, here you can witness daily life along the river, interact with friendly locals, and experience traditions that have been preserved for generations. AUTOUR Asia - Vietnam tour agency - made this experience effortless, guiding us through the Delta with local insights and comfort.

II. What to do and what to see? Our Mekong cruise experience

It was hot when we were there, but they always provide coconut juice to cooling us down wherever we arrived. Some locals may have whole families working for coconuts. We visited the houses of the locals and took a boat. The river was quiet and comfortable.

The food at the B&B was delicious and the host was very friendly.  In addition, I also custom-made a local costume.

Driver and guide are friendly, the guide took lots of photos for us, It was a pleasant trip accompanied by beautiful scenery, delicious food and friendly people.

Our journey began in Cai Be, where we boarded a charming boat to explore the famous floating market. The scene was vibrant and colorful -small boats stacked with tropical fruits, vegetables, and handmade goods gently bobbing on the river. We even had the chance to taste fresh fruits straight from the vendors - a simple yet unforgettable experience.

Next, we visited traditional craft villages. Watching artisans create rice paper, coconut candy, and intricate handicrafts was fascinating. We even tried our hand at making coconut candy under the guidance of a local craftsman - it was harder than it looked, but so rewarding!
Cruising through Cai Be’s narrow canals was another highlight. Surrounded by lush orchards, stilt houses, and the calm rhythm of the river, it felt like stepping back in time. Lunch on board featured fresh Mekong specialties, including river fish and tropical fruits, making the journey both scenic and delicious.
Dinner in Can Tho
Village experience in Mekong
In Can Tho, our adventure continued at the Cai Rang floating market, one of the largest in the Mekong Delta. The energy was contagious: vendors calling out their goods, boats skillfully navigating the waterways, and the vibrant colors of local produce all around. We also explored nearby villages, observing traditional farming and enjoying the simple charm of rural life.
The day concluded with a sunset cruise, an intimate moment to reflect on the beauty of the Delta. The golden glow on the water and the peaceful surroundings reminded us why this region is so special.

III. Some useful travel tips

From our experience on the Mekong cruise, we picked up a few tips that can make your trip smoother and more enjoyable:

  • Best Time to Visit: We found that early mornings are perfect for floating markets when the activity is at its liveliest. The dry season, from November to April, offers pleasant weather and calm waters.

  • Duration: Spending 1–2 days in Cai Be and Can Tho allows you to explore without rushing and fully enjoy the cruise experience.

  • Packing Essentials: Comfortable clothing, sun protection, a hat, and a camera are must-haves. We also recommend a light jacket for cooler early mornings.

  • Local Etiquette: Greeting locals politely and asking before photographing people or homes goes a long way in showing respect.

  • Booking Tip: AUTOUR Asia provides well-organized cruises with knowledgeable guides, making the journey smooth, informative, and stress-free.

A 2-day farm tour in Vietnam for an insight into everyday rural life

To discover Vietnam from a different perspective, I chose a 2-day Vietnam farm tour, far from the usual tourist routes. My goal was simple: to leave the big cities behind, understand the daily life of local farmers, and take part in activities I had never experienced before. Rather than moving from one monument or guided tour to another, I wanted to slow down, observe, learn, and connect with local people. With the help of a local travel agency in Hanoi, I was able to plan an experience centered around rural life, traditional farming practices, and shared meals with local families. Here is what I took away from these two days.

A 2-week trip through Northern and Central Vietnam, with plenty of experiences without rushing

I’ve just returned from 2 weeks in Central and North Vietnam, and I’m left with the feeling that I discovered several different sides of the country without spending most of my time on the road. Before leaving, I was mainly looking for a varied itinerary combining major cultural sites, beautiful scenery, and enough free time to enjoy each destination at my own pace. From Hanoi to Hoi An, with stops in Ninh Binh, Lan Ha Bay, and Hue, each place had its own atmosphere and experiences to offer. Here is my personal feedback on this 2 weeks in Central and North Vietnam trip, including the moments that stayed with me and a few tips I would give another traveler today. Organizing the trip with a local travel agency in Hanoi also gave me greater peace of mind throughout the journey.
