1. Day 1: Hanoi - Ba Be (Bac Kan) - Ba Be lake

Along the way, I couldn’t take my eyes off the breathtaking scenery: endless green rice terraces cascading down the slopes, small villages nestled peacefully in the valleys, and the fresh mountain air that seemed to wash away all my fatigue.

I had the chance to learn about the age-old techniques the artisans use to craft incense, and even tried my hand at making my own. It was a deeply authentic experience that allowed me to appreciate the craftsmanship and spiritual significance of this tradition.
Finally, I arrived in Khuoi Khon, a peaceful village surrounded by breathtaking mountains in the late afternoon. The simplicity of life here was refreshing, offering a moment of quiet reflection after all the adventure. The serene atmosphere, combined with the stunning landscape, made it the perfect way to end my journey.

4. Day 4: Khuoi Khon – Meo Vac – Dong Van
The fourth day of the
6-day North Vietnam itinerary was a journey through culture, history, and some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes I’ve ever encountered. Our day began with a visit to
Khuoi Khon village, home to the Black Lo Lo people. Stepping into their village felt like walking into a living storybook. The Black Lo Lo, with their vibrant traditional attire and warm smiles, welcomed us with open arms. Learning about their way of life was deeply moving, especially knowing that this village gained international recognition when "France 2" featured it in the show "
Rendez-vous en terre inconnue" with the renowned rugby player Michalak. It felt surreal to be in the same place that captivated viewers around the world, and the villagers’ pride in sharing their culture was truly inspiring.
From Khuoi Khon, we embarked on a thrilling drive toward the legendary Ma Pi Leng pass, one of Vietnam’s most awe-inspiring mountain roads. Known as the "Horse’s Nose Ridge Mountain," this pass offered views that defy description. Standing atop this 25-kilometer stretch connecting Meo Vac and Dong Van, I felt as though I was on the edge of the world. The steep cliffs, lush valleys, and the winding
Nho Que river far below made every moment along the pass unforgettable. It’s incredible to think that this road, called the "Happiness Road", was carved by the hands of ethnic minorities just 11 months back in 1965. Their monumental effort is a testament to human resilience and determination.
As we descended toward Dong Van, I couldn’t help but reflect on how this region is a harmonious blend of natural beauty and human spirit. The sights, the history, and the people made every mile of today’s journey unforgettable.
We ended the day in Dong Van Ha Giang, a charming town nestled in the mountains. After a simple but hearty meal, I fell asleep with a heart full of gratitude and a camera full of incredible photos. Today wasn’t just about visiting places; it was about experiencing the soul of northern Vietnam.
5. Day 5: Dong Van – Thon Tha Village
On day 5 of my incredible journey through Bac Kan Cao Bang Ha Giang, the adventure was nothing short of breathtaking. The day began with a climb up a high pass to reach the awe-inspiring "Heaven's Gate", the entrance to the Dong Van Geological Park. The moment I stood there, surrounded by towering karst formations, I felt like I was on top of the world. The name "Heaven's Gate" couldn’t have been more fitting, it truly felt like a gateway to another realm.
From there, we ventured to the
Hmong King's Palace, an architectural marvel tucked into the Sa Phin Valley. This grand residence, built from solid plateau stones, was a window into a rich history and culture. Visiting a traditional wooden and clay house was like stepping back in time. Crossing into the Lo Lo hamlet, I couldn’t help but admire their colorful traditional attire and the warmth of their smiles. It was humbling to see how connected the Tay people are to their land and traditions.

Dinner was a delightful experience, sharing stories and laughter over a delicious homemade meal. The hospitality of the locals was heartwarming, and I went to bed feeling both content and inspired.
6. Day 6: Thon Tha Village – Hanoi. End of trip
After breakfast, we set off on the road back to Hanoi, our hearts full of the incredible experiences of the past 6 days Bac Kan Cao Bang Ha Giang. Along the way, we made a few scenic stops to soak in the last glimpses of North Vietnam's beauty.
