II. What to do and what to see? Our Mekong cruise experience

It was hot when we were there, but they always provide coconut juice to cooling us down wherever we arrived. Some locals may have whole families working for coconuts. We visited the houses of the locals and took a boat. The river was quiet and comfortable.

The food at the B&B was delicious and the host was very friendly. In addition, I also custom-made a local costume.

Driver and guide are friendly, the guide took lots of photos for us, It was a pleasant trip accompanied by beautiful scenery, delicious food and friendly people.

Our journey began in Cai Be, where we boarded a charming boat to explore the famous floating market. The scene was vibrant and colorful -small boats stacked with tropical fruits, vegetables, and handmade goods gently bobbing on the river. We even had the chance to taste fresh fruits straight from the vendors - a simple yet unforgettable experience.

Next, we visited traditional craft villages. Watching artisans create rice paper, coconut candy, and intricate handicrafts was fascinating. We even tried our hand at making coconut candy under the guidance of a local craftsman - it was harder than it looked, but so rewarding!
Cruising through Cai Be’s narrow canals was another highlight. Surrounded by lush orchards, stilt houses, and the calm rhythm of the river, it felt like stepping back in time. Lunch on board featured fresh Mekong specialties, including river fish and tropical fruits, making the journey both scenic and delicious.

In Can Tho, our adventure continued at the Cai Rang floating market, one of the largest in the Mekong Delta. The energy was contagious: vendors calling out their goods, boats skillfully navigating the waterways, and the vibrant colors of local produce all around. We also explored nearby villages, observing traditional farming and enjoying the simple charm of rural life.
The day concluded with a sunset cruise, an intimate moment to reflect on the beauty of the Delta. The golden glow on the water and the peaceful surroundings reminded us why this region is so special.

How long should we spend on a Mekong cruise?

The ideal duration for a Mekong cruise depends on how much of the Delta you want to explore, but we found that 1–2 days is perfect for Cai Be and Can Tho. This allows enough time to visit the bustling floating markets, explore traditional craft villages, cruise through serene canals, and enjoy the lush orchards and riverside scenery without feeling rushed. A one-day trip can give you a glimpse of the highlights, while a two-day cruise offers a more relaxed experience, including sunset or sunrise views and the chance to immerse yourself fully in local life.
