For those like me who love to explore the culture of the Southwest region of Vietnam, Tay Ninh is a great choice. Located about 100 km from Ho Chi Minh City, I spent my 2 days relaxing in Tay Ninh while discovering the exceptional natural beauty of this place. I hope my 2-day itinerary in Tay Ninh will help you easily plan your itinerary and prepare well for your trip.
I decided to dedicate my 2 days in Tay Ninh after my stay in Ho Chi Minh City. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of a big city, Tay Ninh is an excellent option. This peaceful province offers untouched natural beauty along with unique cultural features.
So, what to do in Tay Ninh? My 2-day trip to Tay Ninh included visits to Ba Den Mountain, Nui Da Lake, Dau Tieng Lake, and a few other interesting spots. At these natural sites, you can admire the serene beauty of Tay Ninh. Especially, if you’re planning a 2-day itinerary in Tay Ninh, don’t miss the Tay Ninh Night Market, where you can go shopping and discover the culinary specialties of the South.
For visitors planning a 2-day trip to Tay Ninh, I recommend scheduling it during festive occasions, such as the full moon of the first lunar month or the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Morning and Afternoon: Ba Den Mountain - Nui Da Lake
As a renowned landmark in southern Vietnam, Ba Den Mountain is an ideal choice for the first day of your trip to Tay Ninh for 2 days. It is the tallest mountain in southeastern Vietnam, standing at an altitude of 986 meters, located in Thanh Tan commune, Tay Ninh city, Tay Ninh province.
To conquer Ba Den Mountain (also known as the Black Virgin Mountain), top things to do in Tay Ninh, you can take the cable car. However, I personally enjoy the experience of climbing the mountain on foot via staircases that lead through various temples. For adventurous young hikers, there are also more challenging trekking trails. I pretty enjoyed my comfortable and convenient journey while visiting temples on the mountain, such as Cao Dai Temple, Huong Tich Temple, and Ba Den Main Temple.
Along the way, you can marvel at the natural scenery and the intricately carved Buddha statues. Particularly, the stunning natural landscape at the summit of Ba Den Mountain will make your 2-day itinerary to Tay Ninh unforgettable. The sunset at the mountain’s peak is breathtaking, with layers of thick clouds creating a picturesque and colorful scene. From the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surroundings, from the cityscape to the winding streams in the forest. At the summit, I visited the shrine dedicated to the Black Virgin Goddess and participated in engaging cultural and spiritual activities, top best things to do in Tay Ninh. Don’t forget to capture all your beautiful moments at the mountain’s peak!
I also visited Nui Da Lake, which is located next to the Ba Den Mountain tourist complex. Easy to access, this site is also one of the fairly popular destinations for a 2-day Tay Ninh trip. I was immediately impressed by the peaceful and wild natural scenery of this lake. The lake's water is very clear and green, giving a very pleasant and refreshing feeling.
Evening: Tay Ninh night market
If you’re planning to stay in Tay Ninh for 2 days, I recommend visiting the Tay Ninh night market. The market is open from the afternoon until midnight, so you can shop and explore the local culture and cuisine throughout the evening. I found this cultural aspect very interesting. I tried many Southern specialties there with a very affordable price.
I began the second day of my two-day trip to Tay Ninh with a bowl of Trang Bang rice noodles, a local specialty of the region. A warm bowl of soup at the market gave me the energy needed to continue my explorations for the day.
Morning: Dau Tieng Lake
What to do in Tay Ninh the second day? Located about 38 km east of Tay Ninh city, Dau Tieng Lake is an ideal destination for nature lovers like me. It is currently the largest irrigation reservoir in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Here, you can admire the tranquil landscapes while participating in tourist activities near the lake. During my two-day stay in Tay Ninh, I rented a camping tent at Trung (Egg) Rocky Beach—a vast grassy area with green rocks along the shores of Dau Tieng Lake—to enjoy the scenery and take photos. I especially appreciated the authenticity and simplicity of this place.
Afternoon: Tay Ninh Holy See
After visiting Dau Tieng Lake, I returned to the city to explore the Tay Ninh Holy See, a unique architectural masterpiece located about 4 km from the city center. This iconic landmark of Tay Ninh is closely tied to the region’s history, making it a beautiful conclusion to your two-day itinerary in Tay Ninh. It is one of the best places to visit in Tay Ninh, so make sure it's on your list when you make your plan.

1. When is the best time to visit Tay Ninh?
The climate in Tay Ninh is quite mild, with two distinct seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. Tay Ninh enjoys warm and sunny weather year-round, making it very pleasant to visit at any time. However, the best time for a 2-day trip to Tay Ninh is during the dry season, from December to April of the following year. During this period, the weather is dry, and rainfall is rare, making it ideal for travel and sightseeing.
In particular, throughout the lunar month of January, many temples in Tay Ninh host festivals. If you enjoy exploring unique cultural identities, this festive period is the most suitable for your 2-day Tay Ninh itinerary. The Ba Den Mountain Festival is one of the most famous festivals in Tay Ninh. It takes place every year on the night of the 18th to the 19th of the lunar month of January. To avoid crowds, you may opt to visit just before or after these two days.
2. Tips for visiting Ba Den Mountain?
Think carefully before choosing the way to conquer the top of Ba Den Mountain. If you want a smooth and relaxing stay, opt for the cable car service. On the other hand, if you prefer to explore one of the hiking trails, make sure you are in good physical condition and wear comfortable clothes.
