Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok - Boat on Chao Phraya River
The second country on our Southeast Asia trip was Thailand. The whole family was excited to explore this country, especially the kids, as we had heard about many fun attractions and delicious food.
We had no trouble searching for “what to do in Thailand in 5 days”. Ms. Tina quickly and warmly helped me organize a 5-day Thailand itinerary that perfectly matched our expectations.
The weather in Thailand in 5 days during August meant facing hot weather and sudden showers. Fortunately, we didn’t encounter a single rainy day during our stay.
To save time, we took a direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok in the morning, then checked in and had lunch at the hotel. Tina had reserved a 4-star hotel for us, the Bangkok Palace Hotel, conveniently located in the city center, making it easy to get around and explore the area.
In the early afternoon, our driver and guide picked us up for a boat ride on the Chao Phraya River. We were able to admire Bangkok from the water. The boat trip was peaceful, and our guide shared the history of Thailand’s famous landmarks, such as Wat Arun Temple, the Grand Palace, Phra Sumen Fort, and more.
Our boat stopped at Wat Arun Temple. I was particularly impressed by its unique architecture and history. It’s a must-see! We were lucky enough to witness a stunning sunset from the temple, offering a breathtaking view.
Our first day in Thailand was quite relaxed. In the evening, we visited the Pratunam night market. The market was really lively, with a wide variety of products. Since my kids wanted to try some local snacks, we bought several Thai dishes from the food court. The dish that left the biggest impression on me was the mango sticky rice, which wasn’t too sweet and had a delightful coconut milk aroma. As for my wife, she loved the pomegranate juice.
Day 2: Bangkok city tour - Thailand itinerary 5 days
On the second day, the driver and guide picked us up from the hotel after breakfast. They were very punctual and enthusiastic. We visited the Grand Royal Palace, which displays royal artifacts and the history of the Thai monarchy. After that, we went to Wat Pho Temple, home to the largest reclining Buddha statue. Our guide was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about Buddhist culture in Thailand.
In the afternoon, we took our kids to Siam Park. The rides were a lot of fun, and the facilities were modern. This spot was the kids’ favorite part of our Thailand travel itinerary 5 days.
After a great time at the park, the guide took us to Kuang Heng Kaiton Pratunam restaurant, famous for its chicken rice. The meal was delicious and perfectly suited to our family.
Day 3: Bangkok - Mae Klong Railway Market - Kanchanaburi
On the third day, we woke up early at 7 a.m. to head to Kanchanaburi, located in central Thailand. This area is famous for its peaceful natural beauty, far less bustling than Bangkok.
We made a stop at the Mae Klong Railway Market. We were amazed to see the railway tracks running right through the middle of this busy market. I was craving some Pad Thai, so our guide found a local restaurant in the market where we had lunch
Next, we visited the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. My whole family had the chance to hop on a boat to explore the market. The vendors were all smiles, inviting us to buy their products. The stalls offered a wide variety of goods, mainly food and fruit, but we didn’t buy anything. The market was bustling, and the buildings along the river had old, traditional architecture.
After this visit, our driver took us to Kanchanaburi, where we explored several iconic tourist sites, such as the Bridge over the River Kwai, the Jaeth War Museum, and the war cemetery. These places are steeped in history and gave us insight into World War II.
Our final stop was the Death Railway, which connects Thailand to Myanmar. This railway is also historic, built by prisoners during the war.
After this long day of travel, we decided to rest soon at our hotel in Kanchanaburi, marking the halfway point of our 5-day Thailand itinerary.
Day 4 : Kanchanaburi - Ayutthaya - Thailand itinerary 5 days
In the morning, our driver and guide took us to Ayutthaya, about a 2-hour drive away. As the ancient capital of Thailand, Ayutthaya is rich in historical remnants, with its palaces and sacred temples.
Our first stop was Wat Phu Khao Thong, where we admired the enormous chedis rising about 50 meters, offering a majestic panoramic view.
We then had lunch at a local restaurant, enjoying Tom Yum. This type of soup is quite spicy, so my kids and I couldn’t eat much, but my wife loved it.
In the afternoon, we visited the old palace, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, home to the largest bronze Buddha statue, as well as Wat Lokaya Sutha, famous for its giant reclining Buddha statue.
With the evening free, the whole family explored the city by bicycle and dined at a restaurant recommended by the hotel reception.
All in all, if you want to discover Buddhist culture and learn more about the history of Thailand, Ayutthaya is a must-visit stop on my Thailand itinerary 5 days.
Day 5: Ayutthaya - Bang Pa In Royal Palace - Depature from Bangkok
On the last day of our 5-day trip to Thailand, we drove back to Bangkok to catch an afternoon flight to Vietnam.
We made a stop at the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace. This palace, built long ago, showcases architecture with a slight European influence. The surrounding landscape is stunning, with a majestic palace at its center.
Afterward, we headed directly to the airport, marking the end of our 5 days in Thailand.
