After my stay in Ho Chi Minh City, I embarked on a journey to the Mekong Delta, where I spent 4 days in Can Tho and Sadec. These places have a unique identity, unlike any other province in Vietnam.
What makes this region so special is its lifestyle reliant on the Mekong River. Can Tho is famous for its vibrant floating markets, where merchant boats bustle in a lively atmosphere, and its artisan villages where local specialties are crafted.
Sadec, located in An Giang Province, transported me to a picturesque setting with its colorful flower gardens and ancient temples nestled among vast lotus ponds. We also had the opportunity to visit nearby Mekong Delta sites such as Cai Be, Chau Doc, and Long Xuyen.

I set off early in the morning from Ho Chi Minh City hotel for a 4-day tour of Can Tho and Sadec. After a 2-hour drive, I reached my first stop: Cai Be, a district famous for its lush orchards and unique river culture. I visited the Cai Be Cao Dai temple, a sacred site with a distinctive architectural design. This place is also rich in fascinating stories about history and religion.
Next, I boarded a boat to reach Tan Phong Islet (Cù Lao Tân Phong in Vietnamese). There, I discovered typically Vietnamese tropical orchards, like longan groves. I had the chance to pick and enjoy these incredibly sweet and juicy fruits.
After lunch, I continued my tour by exploring traditional craft villages. First, I visited a coconut candy factory where these delicious candies, with their irresistible coconut aroma, are made. Then, I joined in the wild honey harvesting and enjoyed a cup of fragrant honey tea. Finally, we visited Mr. Kiet's Ancient House, a symbol of traditional Indochinese architecture. This was the last stop of the day before spending the night in Can Tho. Thus ended the first day of my 4-day trip in Can Tho and Sadec.
On the second day of my Mekong Delta journey, I visited the Cai Rang Floating Market, one of the highlights of my 4-day itinerary in Can Tho and Sadec. The market was a true explosion of life, with boats full of fruits, vegetables, and local specialties. On our boat, we navigated through the hustle and bustle, chatted with the locals – who were so welcoming and smiling – and even bought some products directly on the water. I also took part in a workshop where I learned how to make rice cakes, a fun and typical experience.
In the afternoon, I headed to Con Son Islet! There, I crossed a small bamboo bridge, fed koi fish, and enjoyed the tranquility of this charming place. Later, I embarked on a magical boat ride in the Tra Su Cajeput Forest. The sound of the birds and the peaceful atmosphere of this wild forest completely transported me. This was the final stop of a day full of discoveries, before heading back to Chau Doc for a restful evening.
The third day of my 4-day trip to Can Tho and Sa Dec offered an incredible immersion into the history, culture, and nature of the Mekong Delta.
The day started with a visit to Sam Mountain National Tourism Area, home to the majestic Tay An Temple, which was influenced by Indian architecture. Then, I explored the impressive Ba Chua Xu Temple – the Lady Temple at Sam Mountain, with its unique architecture that perfectly represents the cultural richness of the Mekong Delta.
In the afternoon, I visited Long Xuyen and its impressive farm housing over 1,000 crocodiles! The experience of feeding them was fascinating and unforgettable. Later, I headed to Sadec, where I continued my discoveries. Among the notable sites, the Sadec Hokkien Assembly Hall, over 100 years old, captivated me with its traditional Chinese architecture and unique history.

On the last day of my 4-day itinerary in Can Tho and Sadec, I left early to visit the Sadec Flower Village. There, I enjoyed a short walk along the Tien River and admired the tranquility of the villages surrounded by beautiful flower gardens with vibrant colors. Since my trip took place in January, just before Tet, the weather in Sadec and Can Tho 4 days was a bit hot for this time of year in southern Vietnam. However, the bustle and excitement of the locals preparing for Tet added a special, lively touch to my experience.
The next stop was the Happy Land Hung Thy Garden, a place filled with fun activities. I took on the challenge of crossing a monkey bridge by bike – a task that was far from easy, but fun.
Finally, my last destination was the Lotus Pagoda, famous for its giant royal lotus leaves, which were incredibly beautiful. It was a unique experience before returning to Ho Chi Minh City in the evening. Thus ended my 4-day journey through Can Tho and Sadec.
