Review of the 6-day Mekong Delta itinerary by Mr. Rossi

Hello everyone! We enjoyed exploring the Mekong Delta on a 6-day family trip through Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and Can Tho. This journey gave us a glimpse into southern Vietnam's vibrant yet peaceful life, with its beautiful cajeput forests, lively floating markets, and charming rural villages. Every stop had something unique to offer, and the whole experience left us with memories to cherish. Let me share our 6-day Mekong Delta itinerary and the highlights of our trip to Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and Can Tho!

1. Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Con Son Islet – An Giang – Chau Doc

We started the trip by leaving our hotel in Ho Chi Minh City early and heading to Con Son, a small islet in Can Tho province. The drive took a little over 3 hours, but the scenic views made it enjoyable.

Once we got there around midday, we had lunch at a local restaurant and visited a nearby fruit orchard, where we picked and enjoyed fresh fruit straight from the trees – such a fun and refreshing experience!

After that, we continued to An Giang and spent the night in Chau Doc, a charming town near the Cambodian border. It’s a fascinating place with cultural, architectural, and religious diversity. Highlights included the Ba Chua Xu Temple on Mount Sam and the Jamiul Azhar Mosque.

One of my favorite parts of the day was visiting the Chau Giang weaving village. It was so cool to see how traditional brocade fabrics are made and to chat with the Cham ethnic community. The Ba Chua Xu Temple or the Lady Temple was also a standout – grand and atmospheric, with a unique vibe. That wrapped up the first day of our 6-day itinerary Can Tho - Bac Lieu - Ca Mau.

2. Day 2: Tra Su Cajeput Forest – Thach Dong Mountain – Mui Nai Beach – Ha Tien

After breakfast in Chau Doc, we started our day with a visit to the Tra Su Cajeput Forest. This was an unforgettable experience for the whole family. We boarded a boat that took us deep into the heart of the forest, where we listened to the birds' songs and soaked in the tranquil, poetic beauty of this untouched nature. The forest also features a bamboo walkway through the trees, known as the longest of its kind in Vietnam.

In the afternoon, we drove to Ha Tien in Kien Giang province, where we checked into our hotel for the night. From there, we visited Thach Dong, a striking limestone mountain covered in lush greenery. From the top, we even caught a glimpse of Cambodia in the distance. Inside the cave, we explored the historic and serene Tien Son Pagoda.

To wrap up day 2 of 6 days in Can Tho - Bac Lieu - Ca Mau, we relaxed at Mui Nai Beach and indulged in some fresh and delicious seafood.

3. Day 3: Ha Tien – Phu Tu Island – Rach Gia – Kien Giang – Ca Mau

Day 3 of our 6-day Mekong Delta trip brought us to Phu Tu Island, often called the "miniature Halong Bay". This picturesque site is famous for its two leaning rock formations that resemble a father and son embracing, tied to a moving local legend. While there, we enjoyed a swim, visited Hang Pagoda, and explored the stunning Diamond Cave.

After lunch, we set off on a 3-hour drive to Ca Mau, Vietnam's southernmost point. Once we arrived, we spent the evening exploring the city at our leisure before calling it an early night.

4. Day 4: Ca Mau Cape National Park – Bac Lieu – Som Rong Pagoda – Can Tho

Day 4 focused on exploring Ca Mau. We started by visiting the geographic marker that signifies Vietnam’s southernmost tip, followed by a trip to Ca Mau Cape National Park. This park is known for its unique mangrove ecosystem, flagpole, Lac Long Quan Temple, and the statue of Mother Au Co.

After lunch, we departed for Bac Lieu, stopping first at the Bac Lieu Prince's House – the largest mansion in southern Vietnam, built in the early 20th century with French architectural influences. Next, we visited the Khmer Som Rong Pagoda, which quickly became one of our favorite stops. Majestic and stunning, it perfectly showcases the Khmer culture of southern Vietnam.

We ended the day with a memorable dinner aboard a boat on the Can Tho River, a truly unforgettable experience that capped off the 4th day of our 6-day Can Tho, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau itinerary.

5. Day 5: Cai Rang Floating Market – Tram Chim National Park – Can Tho

The highlight of our 6 days Can Tho - Bac Lieu - Ca Mau itinerary was undoubtedly the Cai Rang Floating Market in Can Tho. This early morning market, a true symbol of Mekong Delta culture, is an unmissable experience. We navigated among boats brimming with fresh fruits and vegetables, enjoyed breakfast on the water, and visited a local artisan village specializing in hu tieu — a beloved noodle dish of the region. Making these traditional noodles with the locals was such a warm and unique experience!

Next, we headed to Tram Chim National Park, a magical sanctuary where hundreds of birds, including the rare sarus crane, live freely. A peaceful boat ride allowed us to fully enjoy the lush, green surroundings.

After a delightful lunch, we continued to My Phuong Thanh, a charming spot surrounded by lotus fields and rice paddies — a serene way to end the day.

6. Day 6: My Khanh Village – Return to Ho Chi Minh City

The final day of our 6-day Mekong Delta tour was all about relaxation. We spent the morning exploring My Khanh Village, famous for its 100-year-old ancestral house, stunning flower gardens, fruit orchards, and cultural house. This village offered us a glimpse into the traditions of the four main ethnic groups in the delta: Kinh, Hoa, Cham, and Khmer.

We also had the chance to try various fun activities, such as cycling over bamboo bridges, enjoying a fish massage, and even catching fish with nets — a true immersion into local life!

After a cozy lunch, it was time to conclude our journey. We set off for Ho Chi Minh City and arrived in the evening, bringing our incredible 6-day trip to Can Tho, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau to an end.
