Sapa has attracted many Vietnamese and international travelers for a long time thanks to its exceptional natural beauty, fresh and pure climate, rich gastronomy, and the colorful diversity of its ethnic minorities. Located about 6 to 7 hours by road from Hanoi, Sapa is a gem waiting to be explored. I. Overview of the 5-day itinerary in Sapa

Our 5-day trip in Sapa ended beautifully! The itinerary was perfectly designed, meeting all our expectations: exploring the stunning landscapes and connecting with the local ethnic groups. A big thank you to Selina, our travel advisor, who carefully assisted us throughout the trip and arranged a very professional guide and driver for us.

Below, I have outlined our Sapa travel itinerary 5 days. The ethnic villages in Sapa are incredibly unique and possess a charm of their own. Each ethnic group here stands out with traditional patterned clothing and colorful costumes. The language they use to communicate with each other is a local dialect, which makes conversations challenging for us. However, despite this language barrier, they are not distant at all. The people of Sapa were very warm and welcoming to us.

Day 1: Hanoi - Sapa by Bus - O Quy Ho Pass - Silver Waterfall - Sapa Heaven Gate
Day 2: Sapa - Mount Fansipan - Stone Church - Sapa Night Market

Day 5: Ta Van Village - Sin Chai Village - Sapa - Bus to Hanoi

II. Detailed Sapa itinerary 5 days

1. Day 1: Hanoi - Sapa - O Quy Ho Pass - Silver Waterfall - Sapa Heaven Gate

We departed from Hanoi to Sapa on a sleeper bus the night before, allowing us to make the most of a full day of traveling the next morning. By 7 a.m., we had already arrived in Sapa.

We began our 5-day itinerary in Sapa by exploring the O Quy Ho Pass. The driver was excellent, which allowed us to feel safe despite the winding curves of the pass.

The entire day was dedicated to discovering Sapa’s natural wonders, starting with the majestic and imposing Silver Waterfall, followed by the Golden Stream, with its crystal-clear waters.

We then had lunch at a local restaurant recommended by our guide. The dishes were fresh and delicious, as the ingredients came directly from the crops and livestock raised by Sapa’s local people.

In the afternoon, we continued our visit to the Love Waterfall and Sapa Heaven Gate to admire a panoramic view from the heights. In the distance, we could see layers of mountain ranges stretching on, while below us, vast rice terraces and valleys extended as far as the eye could see.

On the way back, our guide took us to Sapa Lake, a perfect spot to admire the city as night fell. The houses gradually lit up, creating a romantic and enchanting scene.

2. Day 2: Sapa - Mount Fansipan - Stone Church - Sapa Night Market

We woke up early the second morning during our 5 days in Sapa because today, we were taking the cable car to the summit of Mount Fansipan, known as the highest mountain in Southeast Asia. However, the cable car ride is not very long, taking just over 15 minutes to reach the summit. Though short, the journey was very pleasant, offering breathtaking views of Sapa from above.

At the summit, there were pagodas where we admired immense Buddha statues, standing against the vast sky. The pagodas, shrouded in mist, created an atmosphere that was both sacred and mysterious.

In the afternoon, we visited the Sapa Stone Church. The guide said that the church had been built by the French in an ancient Romanesque-Gothic style. In the evening, we strolled through the Sapa Night Market and tasted local street food. This was also the final stop of our second day in Sapa.

3. Day 3: Sapa - Cat Cat Village - Hoang Lien National Park - Y Linh Ho Village

On the third morning of our 5 days in Sapa, we began our journey to Cat Cat Village. This village is quite famous and attracts many tourists. Despite this, the scenery is truly magnificent, particularly with the water wheels along the stream that we were able to admire. The local market also offers a wide variety of handicrafts, allowing us to do some shopping.

In the afternoon, we explored Hoang Lien National Park, a place rich in extremely diverse flora and fauna. The air was incredibly fresh, which made our trekking experience particularly memorable. Our local guide was very knowledgeable and shared plenty of information about the indigenous plants used by locals as traditional remedies.

At the end of the day, we spent the night in a stilt house in Y Linh Ho Village. We had the opportunity to interact with the Black Hmong people and taste their traditional corn alcohol. It must be said that Vietnamese alcohol is particularly strong and full-bodied!

4. Day 4: Y Linh Ho Village - Lao Chai Village - Ta Van Village

On day 4, we explored some of the most authentic ethnic villages in Sapa, introduced to us by our guide. We began with Lao Chai Village, a less touristy and particularly peaceful spot. Here, we discovered vast terraced rice fields. However, as the season had already passed, we didn’t have the chance to admire the beautiful golden hues of the fields as seen in photos. And then, we enjoyed a lunch made up of traditional dishes from the Dao people.

In the afternoon, we visited Ta Van Village, inhabited by the Giay ethnic group. From our homestay, we had a stunning view of the terraced rice fields. In the distance, a stream meandered through the village, offering a picturesque setting. We had the chance to trek around the village and chat with the locals, who were particularly warm and welcoming. Thus, this day concluded another memorable part of our 5-day itinerary in Sapa.

5. Day 5: Ta Van Village - Sin Chai Village - Sapa - Hanoi

On the final day of our 5 days in Sapa, the itinerary was quite light with a visit to Sin Chai Village. This village, equally peaceful and less touristy, is inhabited by the Black Hmong ethnic group. The natural landscape has remained wild, giving the impression that only locals know about this preserved spot. We had our meal at a local restaurant before driving back to Sapa town for a well-deserved break. Finally, we took the bus back to Hanoi, thus concluding our Sapa itinerary for 5 days.

III. Weather in Sapa 5 days – Forecasts for a trip

Regarding the weather in Sapa 5 days, we were fortunate that it didn’t rain and the weather remained cool, which was very convenient for our outdoor activities. However, since we visited in November, a period when the harvest season was already over, we didn’t get the chance to admire the golden terraced rice fields. This was somewhat disappointing, so we plan to return to Sapa during the ripe rice season, which takes place between August and October.
