Day 2: Siem Reap - Angkor Thom - Angkor Wat (B / L)

On the second day of your Vietnam Cambodia 17-day itinerary, after enjoying breakfast, you will embark on a tour to Angkor Thom. The tour starts at the South Gate entrance. Your first stop will be the magnificent Bayon Temple, also known as the 4-Faced Temple. This temple is the last great temple to be constructed in the Angkor complex.

Next, you will visit the Terrace of the Elephants, where you can experience the vantage point from which the Khmer rulers watched their armies returning. You will also have the opportunity to marvel at the impressive three-tiered temple of Baphuon, which has recently completed a 51-year restoration project. As you explore, you'll be immersed in the steamy jungle environment that served as the backdrop for the blockbuster movie "Tomb Raider."

After a fulfilling morning, you'll enjoy lunch before continuing your temple tour at the iconic Angkor Wat. This temple holds great significance as the most legendary temple of the Khmer kingdom and former capital. Inside Angkor Wat, you will be mesmerized by the intricate carvings and bas-reliefs dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, as well as scenes depicting Hindu mythology.

Day 3: Siem Reap - Banteay Srei - Roluos Group - Bakong (B / L)

Continuing the journey, this morning you will visit the exquisite Bantaey Srei temple, known for having the finest carvings among all the temples in the Angkor complex. Marvel at the intricate craftsmanship and delicate details of this small temple.

On your way back to Siem Reap, you will pass through local villages. If time allows, you can make a stop to observe and learn about the traditional process of sugar production from sugar palms.

After a satisfying lunch, your exploration continues with a visit to the temples of the Roluos group. These temples date back to the early Angkor period, spanning from 802 to 1431.

Your first stop will be Preah Ko, the inaugural temple constructed in the ancient city of Hariharalaya. Preah Ko, meaning "Sacred Bull," gets its name from the three sandstone statues that face the central towers, representing Nandi, the white bull who served as the mount of Shiva.

Next, you will proceed to Bakong, a temple mountain that once served as the official state temple of King Indravarman I in Hariharalaya. Admire the remnants of the original bas-reliefs, which provide glimpses into the temple's historical significance.

Concluding the Roluos tour, you will visit Lolei, the final temple of Hariharalaya. Lolei is renowned for its beautiful carved lintels and false doors, showcasing the artistic mastery of the time.

Day 4: Siem Reap - Phnom Penh | By Express Boat (B / L)

In the early morning, you will be transferred to Siem Reap pier to begin an exciting journey on an express boat. The boat will navigate the Tonle Sap River and take you to the expansive Tonle Sap Lake, the largest lake in Southeast Asia. The duration of the boat journey can vary from 5 to 7 hours, depending on the season.

Upon reaching Phnom Penh, the vibrant capital of Cambodia, you will be picked up from the pier and transferred to your hotel for check-in.

Once settled, you will continue your exploration by visiting the thought-provoking Killing Fields Memorial, also known as the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. This museum is a poignant reminder of the dark period in Cambodia's history. From 1975 to 1979, approximately 17,000 people were imprisoned at Tuol Sleng, with the prison holding around 1,000 to 1,500 prisoners at any given time. The inmates endured unimaginable torture and were coerced into providing information about their family members and associates, leading to further arrests, torture, and killings.

Visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum offers a somber opportunity to reflect on the tragic events that occurred during that time in Cambodia's history.

Upon reaching Chau Doc, you will go through the necessary customs procedures for the entry visa. Our knowledgeable guide will be waiting for you on the Vietnamese side and will assist you with the process. Once completed, the guide will pick you up and accompany you for the rest of your itinerary.

Day 6: Chau Doc - Sa Dec - Cai Be - Mekong Lodge (B / L / D)

After breakfast, drive to Sa Dec and visit the Huynh Thuy Le ancient house, an 18th-century residence with a rich history. This atmospheric house, located by the riverfront, was once home to Huynh Thuy Le, a prominent figure from Dong Thap. It is famously known as the setting of the passionate love affair between Le and Marguerite Duras, a French writer who immortalized their story in her novel "The Lover" in 1984.

Enjoy lunch at the Huynh Thuy Le ancient house for a complete cultural experience.

Next, explore Kien An Cung Pagoda and Trung Vuong School, where Marguerite Duras attended primary school, further deepening the historical connection to the region.

Afterward, head to Cai Be river wharf and board a boat to the tranquil Mekong Lodge. Check in to your private bungalows at the lodge, surrounded by picturesque surroundings.

The village is home to approximately 150 farmers and 400 owners who cultivate a variety of vegetables and herbs, using natural fertilizers instead of pesticides or GMOs. Experience the picturesque countryside and observe local activities as you pass through villages.

In Tra Que vegetable village, interact with local farmers and learn about cultivation methods while participating in gardening activities like raking, sowing, watering, transplanting, and tending greens. Continue cycling through paddy fields, Ba Le market, and a kindergarten until you reach Van Lang fisherman village and Bay Mau coconut water forest. This area, spanning approximately 7 hectares, is surrounded by mangrove forests and known for its seafood products.
